Many of the offspring of the pioneer Peakes continued on in Nelson, Meade, and adjacent counties. For the most part, they lived in peace with their Protestant neighbors and raised their families on productive farms. Nevertheless, incidents sometimes occurred which disturbed this peaceful life. On election day of 1855 the Know-Nothings, a secretive branch of the Whig party, incited destructive anti-Catholic and anti-foreign riots in Louisville which resulted in the deaths of 22 people, three-fourths of these being Irish immigrants²⁹. Some historians are surprised at the strength of these feelings in Kentucky, as the Catholic population were among the most successful and respected in the state, and there were relatively few foreign immigrants²⁸. The Know-Nothings won the election of 1855, but lost in subsequent elections, and the Whig Party in Kentucky disintegrated thereafter, to some measure because of their role in the Louisville riots²⁹.

Grandchildren of the pioneer Peakes identified from census reports, marriage records, private communications of family histories and other sources are included here. Detailed information, when available, is mainly from the files of C. G. Welker¹⁹.

Eleanor Peake, daughter of Francis Peake and Mary Ann Mitchell, was born 1836/37. She married Joseph Meredith Masterson in Nelson County on May 5, 1851. Their children were Cordelia Masterson, born 1851/5; Elizabeth Masterson, born Aug. 4, 1854, baptized Sept. 3, 1854 at Holy Cross; Anastasia Masterson, born about 1858, baptized May 27, 1860 at Holy Cross; Simon Peter Masterson, born in New Haven Jan. 27, 1861, baptized Mar. 11, 1861 at Gethsemani Abbey; Cecily Joanna Louise Masterson, born July 28, 1863, baptized Aug. 25, 1863 at Gethsemani; Frank Masterson, born about 1865, may be same as following; Joseph F. Theresa Peake, daughter of Francis Peake and Mary Ann Mitchell, was born 1837/38 and married Francis Henry O'Bryan (baptized July 6, 1832 at St. Rose Priory) on Feb. 14, 1857, in Nelson County. Their children, taken from several sources^{19, 49} included: Henry O'Bryan⁴⁹, born Oct. 2, 1858; Pius Sidney O'Bryan, born Oct. 2, 1858, baptized Dec. 9, 1858 at St. Catherine's in New Haven¹⁹, married Mary Elizabeth Morris⁴⁹ on Aug. 28, 1878, died Sept. 19, 1933; Mary Elizabeth O'Bryan¹⁹, born Dec. 14, 1859, baptized Jan. 22, 1860 at Holy Cross; Martha Ursula O'Bryan⁴⁹, born Jan. 1861, married Christopher Columbus Hall on Feb. 4, 1883, died 1918; Susan O'Bryan, born Nov. 26, 1862, baptized Feb. 28, 1862 at Gethsemani Abbey; Margaret Ann O'Bryan¹⁹, born Jan. 5, 1865, baptized Mar. 1, 1865 at Gethsemani; Rosa Ann O'Bryan, born May 15, 1867, and baptized July 14, 1867 at St. Vincent de Paul; Charles O'Bryan⁴⁹, born 1870; John O'Bryan⁴⁹, born 1871; Katherine O'Bryan⁴⁹, born 1873; Rosa Jane O'Bryan, born Feb. 5, 1875, baptized Apr. 5, 1875 at St. Vincent de Paul; Rebecca O'Bryan, born Oct. 3, 1876, baptized Nov. 13, 1876 at St. Vincent de Paul; Maggie Mary O'Bryan⁴⁹, born 1878, married Richard Augusts Chesher in New Hope on May 18, 1909. William Peak was born Jan. 28, 1848, and married Elizabeth Brown⁴⁹. Their children included: William Lee Peak, born Mar. 7, 1877, married Agnes Mueller; Claudia Peak; Roscoe Peak; Frank Peak. William Peak died Jan. 1, 1918.

Richard Peake, born 1835/36, son of William Peak and Lucinda Edelen, initially settled in Nelson County with his wife Elizabeth Ann Boon Peak (born Nov. 16, 1838), whom he married on Jan. 26, 1856 in Nelson County. Their children included: Mary Bell Peake, born Nov. 8, 1856; Catherine (Kittie) Peake, born Feb. 25, 1858; Rosa E. Peake, born 1860; Robert Peake, born Sept. 20, 1861; Joanna Jane Peake ('Gennie'), born Oct. 20, 1862, baptized 1862 at Gethsemani Abbey; Ann Victoria Peake, born Jan. 1, 1865, baptized Feb. 9, 1865 at Gethsemani Abbey; William Henry Peake, born Feb., 1870; John R. Peake, born Feb. 27, 1872, baptized Mar. 4, 1872 at St. Catherine's Church; Sylvester Peake, born 1875; Annie Peake, born 1873; Vannie Peake, born 1877/78; Mary O. Peake, born Apr., 1880; Thomas Boone Peake, born May, 1884, died 1945. Another son, Silvester Peak, was born Feb. 7, 1868, died July 16, 1872, and is buried at Gethsemani Monastery. In the 1870 census Richard and Ann Peak are listed as keepers of a poor house (probably at Gethsemani Abbey). The family moved to Larue County prior to 1880, but returned to Nelson County by 1900. Elizabeth Boon Peake died March 8, 1916, and is buried at St. Catherine's cemetery in New Haven.

Jane Peak, daughter of William Peak and Lucinda Edelen, was born Feb. 1, 1838, and baptized Mar. 19, 1838 at St. Thomas Church in Nelson County, with Mary Ann Bryan as sponsor¹⁹. She married Charles Hillary Clark in Nelson County on Nov. 20, 1854. Charles Hillary Clark was a son of George and Delphena Clark⁴⁸ of Marion County, and brother of William Clark, who married Jane's sister, Rosella. The children of Jane and Charles Hillary Clark included^19,48: Roseanna Clark, born March 27, 1856; Elizabeth O. Clark, born about 1858; Paul Ignatius "Nace" Clark, born April 17, 1859; Mary P. Clark born about 1861, married James A. Brown; Joseph W. Clark, born Aug. 24, 1862; Alethia "Letha" Clark, born May 21, 1864; John Thomas Clark, born about 1865; Charles W. Clark, born May 3, 1866; Lucinda "Ludie" Clark, born Nov. 12, 1867, baptized May 22, 1868, at Holy Cross Church, married Charles Tyler Brown; Susan Emily Clark, born July, 1869, married Thomas Edward Brown; William Clark, born about 1873, married first Mayme Sapp Cambron, married second Jennie Willett; Magnus Pearman Clark, born Oct. 19, 1873; Geneva "Jenny" Clark, born about 1874, married Stephen Brophy; Amanda Clark, born about 1876, married William T. Jane Peak is listed as Barbary Clark in the 1860 Nelson County census records, as Barbara J. Clark in the 1880 Nelson County census¹⁹, and as Mary Peak on her son Magnus Pearman Clark's death certificate⁴⁸. Barbara Jane Peak Clark died Oct. 25, 1914, and is buried at Holy Cross cemetery.

Rosella Peak, daughter of William Peak and Lucinda Edelen, was born about 1839/40 and married William Clark on Feb. 11, 1861. William Clark was a son of George and Delphena Clark⁴⁸ of Marion County, and brother of Charles Hillary Clark, who married Rosella's sister, Jane. The children of Rosella Peak and William Clark include¹⁹: Maxwell Clark, born about 1863; John W. Clark, born about 1865; Clothilda Clark, born June 2, 1866; Francis Jerome Clark, born Oct. 11, 1868; Mary L. Clark, born about 1873.

Elizabeth Peake (Sr. M. Beatrice), daughter of William Peak and Lucinda Edelen, was born in 1847 and joined the Sisters of St. Francis, whose convent and school was located at Mt. Olivet in Nelson County. She died in 1870 at the age of 23 while still a novice and was initially buried in the convent cemetery at Mt. Olivet. She and the other Franciscan nuns buried there were taken up and reburied at St. Louis Cemetery in Louisville on Oct. 15, 1890. In late 1890 the convent relocated to Clinton, Iowa.

Robert E. Peake, son of William and Lucinda Peak, was born Mar. 30, 1850 and baptized Jun. 2, 1850 at Holy Cross Church He married Mary Josephine Greenwell on Jan. 31, 1876 in Nelson County. Mary J. Greenwell was born Nov. 9, 1856 and baptized June 21, 1859 at St. Catherine's in New Haven. Their children included Thaddeus Andrew Peake, born 1878/79; Mary Albin Peake, born Nov. 7, 1881; Marie Antoinette Peake ('Nettie'); Ethel Peake; Disney Peake. Eliza A. Chesher, age 32, is listed as living in the house of Robert E. Peake in the 1880 census. Susan Smith's history of Nelson County⁵ lists R. E. Peak as a grocer in New Haven in 1882. The family left Nelson County before 1900. Robert E. Peake died Feb. 4, 1922 and Mary J. Greenwell Peake died Jan. 7, 1939. Both died in Jefferson County, Kentucky, and both are buried in St. Catherine's cemetery in New Haven.

George W. Peake, son of William and Lucinda Peak, was born in Aug., 1851 and married Teresa Ellen "Tressey" Ballard on Oct. 30, 1877 in Nelson County. Tressey Ballard, daughter of George Ballard and Sallie Gilke, was born in Nelson County on Sept. 6, 1857. Nelson County records show that George W. Peake borrowed $125.00 from James H. Edlin on Sept. 20, 1875, putting up 150 bushels of corn, a mare, and a two-horse wagon for collateral. The 1900 Nelson County census lists eight children of George and Teresa Peake: Francis L. Peake, born 1879; Annie Peake, born Apr., 1883; Katie R. Peake, born Oct., 1885; Leon Peake, born Dec., 1887; Ben Peake, born Nov., 1890; Allean Peake, daughter, born Jan. 1893; Mary E. Peake, born Feb., 1895; and Mary M. Peake, born June, 1899. The family later moved to Louisville, where George W. Peake died on Jan. 25, 1926. Teresa Ballard Peake died of pneumonia on Jan. 19, 1929. She is buried at St. Michael's cemetery in Louisville.

William Leonard Peake, son of William and Lucinda Peak, was born Feb. 22, 1856 and baptized Apr. 3, 1856 at Gethsemani Abbey. He married Amanda Alma Culver (born Nov. 21, 1858, baptized May 1, 1859 at St. Catherine's, daughter of Jacob Culver and Mary Ellen Thornberry) on Jan. 7, 1878 in Nelson County. The 1880 Larue County census lists one child: Jacob L. Peake, born 1878/79. Other records¹⁹ identify the son as Lawrence Joseph Peake, born Feb. 5, 1879.

John F. Peak, son of James E. and Mary Ann Peak, was born in 1842 and raised in Washington County, where his father was a blacksmith. In the early months of the Civil war he enlisted in the 10th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry, along with his cousin Thomas Peake. He joined Company E of the regiment in Marion County on Oct. 24, 1861. (See Part 7 for information on the 10th Kentucky.) John F. Peak was injured at the Battle of Chickamauga, Sept. 19-20, 1863, suffering a fracture of the right middle finger²⁶. His pension records show that while recuperating in the Hospital in Nashville he contracted an unspecified disease of the throat and lungs. He was released from the Hospital on Dec. 31, 1863. When the 10th Kentucky was mustered out of service on Dec. 6, 1864, John F. Peak was seriously ill with diphtheria, which aggravated his throat and lung disorder. Sometime after his release from the service, John Peak moved to Martin County, Indiana, where he married Catherine Miles on Dec. 2, 1870. Catherine was born June 1, 1851, daughter of James Miles and Susan Wheatley (both born in Indiana). The children of John F. and Catherine Peak were Mary J. Peak, born Nov. 4, 1871; James W. Peak, born Nov. 16, 1873; John P. Peak, born July 17, 1875; Anna S. Peak, born Nov. 11, 1884; Susan C. Peak, born Aug. 18, 1886; Thomas E. Peak, born Sept. 17, 1890. His chronic medical problems and consequent financial problems led John F. Peak to apply for a veteran's disability pension in 1888. His application was supported by fellow members of the 10th Kentucky then living in Martin County, James F. Osborn and John F. Osborn, and by local officials of the G.A.R., which was providing some assistance to the family²⁶. To compound his problems, his son John P. Peak, was born mentally deficient (classified "insane" in pension records). When John F. Peak died on May 13, 1910, his pension passed to his wife and dependent son John P. Peak. Catherine Miles Peak died of endocarditis with pneumonia on Mar. 4, 1930 in Vigo County, Ind. Son John P. Peak, then a resident of the Vigo County Poor Farm, died Jan. 3, 1939 of chronic prostatitis and cystitis.

Mary Ellen Peak, daughter of James E. and Mary Ann Peak, was born in 1846 and baptized at St. Rose on Sept. 14, 1846, with Emily Williams as sponsor. She was married to John T. Mattingly in Washington County on Feb. 8, 1869 with Thomas Simms and Louisa Peak as witnesses. Their children, baptized at St. Rose, include Mary Eliza Virginia Mattingly, born Feb. 25, 1870 and baptized Apr. 9, 1870; and John William Mattingly, born Oct. 3, 1873 and baptized Nov. 30, 1873.

Rose Arabella Peak, and daughter of James E. and Mary Ann Peak, was born June 11, 1857 and baptized July 10, 1857 at St. Rose Priory. She married John A. Thornberry at St. Catherine's on June 18, 1878, with Joe Watson and Kate Peak as witnesses. The family is listed in the Larue County census of 1880 with Belle as housekeeper for John S. Beeler, age 55, and John A. and son Joseph B. Thornberry, born about 1878, as boarders.

Sarah Catherine Peak, daughter of James E. and Mary Ann Peak, was born Dec. 20, 1859 and baptized Feb. 11, 1860 at St. Rose Priory. She married Joseph M. Watson (born Jan. 28, 1853) in Nelson County on Feb. 3, 1880. Their daughter, Mary Josephine Watson was married to Lawrence M. Greenwell on June 22, 1904.

Nancy Ann Peak, daughter of Edward Peak and Henrietta Boone, married Charles Burch on May 21, 1843. Their children included the following, baptized at St. Catherine's Church in New Haven: Margaret Burch, born Feb. 17, 1844, baptized Feb. 19, 1844, sponsor Rebecca Burch; Francis Burch, born Aug. 17, 1845, baptized Sept. 18, 1845, sponsor Elizabeth Peak; Laura Burch, born Jan. 29, 1847, baptized April 18, 1847, sponsor Margaret McGill.

Elizabeth Peak, daughter of Edward Peak and Henrietta Boone, married William Lush, and their children included the following, baptized at St. Catherine's: Sara Ellen Lush, born May 23, 1848, baptized July 9, 1848, sponsor Elizabeth Lush; Thomas Lush, born June 5, 1850, baptized Sept. 14, 1850, sponsor Elizabeth Lush; Christopher Columbus Lush, born Feb. 1, 1853, baptized May 22, 1853, sponsor Magdalen Green. Elizabeth Peak sponsored the baptisms of Louisa Ann Thornbury, daughter of Henry Thornbury and Charlotte Edlin, and Francis Burch, son of Charles Burch and Ann Peak.

Mary Ann Peak, daughter of Edward Peak and Henrietta Boone, married William Bradley, and their children included the following, baptized at St. Catherine's: John M. Bradley, born Nov. 12, 1848, baptized April 11, 1849, sponsor Margaret McGill; Raymond Henry Bradley, born Nov. 17, 1850, baptized Apr. 6, 1851, sponsor Jane Woods; Delila Ann Bradley, born Feb. 6, 1853, baptized June 11, 1853, sponsor Matilda Shackelford. Delila Ann Bradley died June 16, 1854 at the age of 18 months, 9 days. Mary Ann Peak sponsored the baptisms of Edward Sims, son of Francis A. Sims and Maria Hagan, and Mary Ellen Wilkins, daughter of Richard Wilkins and Mary Ann Carrico.

John C. Peak, born May 2, 1820, may have been a son of Edward Peak and Henrietta Boone, although this identification is not supported by the Nelson County court documents of 1825, which list only Nancy, Mary Ann and Elizabeth Peak as the heirs of Edward Peak (see Appendix). John C. Peak married¹⁹ Nancy French on Jan. 29, 1839 in Hardin County¹⁹, with consent given by John's mother, named in the record as Henrietta Peak. Nancy French Peak died in childbirth or shortly after, as she was not counted in the 1840 Hardin County census, which shows John Peak, age 20 to 30, with a female child 5 to 10 (actually an infant) and a female 40 to 50 years old in the house. John C. Peak later married Elizabeth Allen (born 1824/25) in Meade County on Mar. 20, 1848. The family is listed in the Meade County census reports of 1850 to 1860 and in the Hardin County census of 1870. The 1850 report includes Eliza Peak (age 11, daughter of Nancy French Peak) and another female age 60 living in the house. Children listed in the 1860-1870 censuses are: Charles Henry Peak, born 1849/50; Nancy Rebecca Peak, born³⁵ Aug. 19, 1852; Martin R. Peak, born Apr. 4, 1854 (burial record has 1857); Lucy D. Peak, born³⁵ Dec. 20, 1857; Mary Peak, born 1860; Philomany Peak (female) born 1862/63; William Peak, born 1865/66; John T. Peak, born 1868/69. John C. Peak died Jan. 23, 1889, and is buried in St. Patrick's cemetery in Hardin County.

The early settlement of Kentucky was concentrated in the Bluegrass region in the central part of the state^28,29. The area inland from the Ohio lying between the Salt and Green rivers, which now includes Meade County, was not considered highly desirable by the early immigrants as it was mainly meadowlands, lacking in forests and watercourses, resources essential to the pioneers for building and maintaining a successful farm²⁸. Much of this area remained unsettled and was therefore available to the children of the pioneers.

The move of the Peake family from Nelson to Meade County started in the 1820's, with Kenelm's son William appearing in the 1830 Meade County census. Eventually four more Peake families, those of Kenelm's sons Charles and Philip, and Francis' sons Thomas and Benjamin found their way to Meade County, and some of their children moved into Hardin County in the 1860's. A few moved farther afield, with one branch settling in Missouri and Kansas. Intermarriage between second-cousin grandchildren of Kenelm and Francis Peak was common in Meade County. All the Meade County marriages listed below up to 1870 were performed by Rev. Charles J. Coomes of St. Martin's Church²³. Marriages after 1871 were mostly performed by Rev. James O'Connor. Information here is from census reports, baptismal, marriage, and cemetery records, private communications of family histories, and the files of C. G. Welker¹⁹.

Aloysius Peak, son of Thomas Peak and Theresa Bryan was born Feb. 20, 1826. He is identified as Thomas Peak's son on his baptismal certificate¹⁹ and is listed in the 1850 and 1860 Meade County census reports. Aloysius Peak was named executor of his father's will, written Sept. 29, 1868, and proven Dec. 11, 1871 (see Appendix). He also signed the dissolution of the will on Jan. 29, 1872. He married²³ Mary E. Simpson in Meade County on Aug. 16, 1849. The family moved to Breckenridge County prior to 1880, and to Hardin County after 1880. Children of Aloysius and Mary Simpson Peak include: Thomas Henry Peak, born July 8, 1850, baptized Sept. 8, 1850; Sarah Delila Peak, born Dec. 17, 1852, baptized Feb. 19, 1853; James Alexander Peak, born July 12, 1855, baptized Aug. 26, 1855; Saphronia Ann Peak, born Dec. 28, 1858, baptized May 21, 1859; Ambrose Clinton Peak, born Mar. 4, 1861, baptized June 11, 1861; son Robert E. Peak, born Mar. 24, 1863, baptized Aug. 8, 1863; Lawrence Peak, born 1864/65. All listed baptisms took place at St. Martin's Church in Flaherty. A granddaughter, Blanche Peak, age 2, was living in the home in 1880. Aloysius Peak wrote his will in Irvington, Ky., on Oct. 17, 1888, in which he left all his property to his wife, Mary E. Peak (see Appendix). He died prior to April 15, 1889, on which date the will was proven in Hardin County Court with R. M. Jolly and Ed Bennett as witnesses.

Charles Thomas Peak, son of Thomas Peak and Theresa Bryan, was born Oct. 18, 1827 in Nelson County. He married Ann Maria Drury (born 1833/34) in Meade County on Feb. 10, 1851. Charles and Ann are listed in the Meade County census report of 1870, and in the Hardin County census of 1880. Children are: Mary E. Peak, born 1859/60; Susanna Peak, born 1863; Stephen C. Peak, born 1865/66; Benedict J. Peak, born 1867/68; Zachariah Francis Peak, born Jan. 17, 1871, baptized³² Feb. 20, 1871 at St. Martin's Church in Flaherty, died Mar. 25, 1962 in Jefferson County. Charles T. Peak signed the agreement dissolving his father's will⁴⁷ on Jan. 29, 1872.

Rhoda Joseph Peak, son of Thomas Peak and Theresa Bryan, was born³¹ June 20, 1829 and baptized July 2, 1829 at St. Thomas Church in Nelson County. He married Emily Jane Peak at St. Martin of Tours Church³⁶ in Meade County on Mar. 30, 1853, with Henry Peak and Mary Ann Peak as witnesses. Emily Jane Peak, born Dec. 19, 1828, was a daughter of Kenelm Peak's son William Peak and Sarah Redmon. Rhoda and Emily Peak moved to Davis County, Iowa, around 1855, and later moved across the state line to Downing, Schuyler County, Missouri. Family history⁴⁷ relates that they left Kentucky because they wanted a better life for their children than picking tobacco could offer. In the fall of 1874 the family moved to Crawford County, Kansas, in a covered wagon^{40, 47}, travelling with four other families. They bought a sod house near Girard and planted a 10 acre orchard and 40 rows of grapes. Their children included: Sarah Ellen Peak, born about 1854; William Thomas Peak, born in Davis County, Iowa on July 24, 1856; John Francis Peak, born near Downing, Mo. on May 13, 1858; Teresa Ann Peak, born April 8, 1860, in Schuyler County, Missouri⁴⁰; Benedict Joseph Peak, born in Schuyler County on Jan. 30, 1862; Stephen Aloysius Peak, born 1864, died Jan. 27, 1942 in Kentucky; Mary Alice Peak, born June 18, 1866, near Downing, Missouri; Mary Elizabeth Peak, born May 13, 1869 in Schuyler County, Missouri, died Oct. 12, 1884 in Greenbush, Kansas. Rhoda Peak is named as a non-participant in the contract dissolving the will of his father, Thomas Peak, signed by the other heirs on Jan. 29, 1872, and entered into record in Meade County on June 21, 1872. Emily Jane Peak died^{31, 47} of a stomach tumor on Nov. 20, 1877 in Girard, Kansas. Rhoda Joseph Peak died of stomach and kidney ailments on Sept. 3, 1902 in Brazilton, Kansas. An obituary described Rhoda as "one of the pioneer residents of the county, and a man of activity and force while in the prime of life". Rhoda Joseph and Emily Jane Peak were buried at St. Aloysius Church in Greenbush, Kansas.

Mary Ann Peak, daughter of Thomas Peak and Theresa Bryan, was born Nov. 4, 1830 and baptized Dec. 9, 1830 at St. Thomas Church. She was named in her father's will, written Sept. 29, 1868, and proven Dec. 11, 1871, as one of the four unmarried daughters to whom he left his farm. By the terms of the will, she forfeited her legal rights to the property, except for a bed, bedding, coverlet, blanket, and quilts, before the will was proven when she married Chestine Ritchie (born Apr. 15, 1816) in Meade County on Nov. 2, 1869. Both Mary Ann and Chestine signed the agreement dissolving her father's will on Jan. 29, 1872. Chestine Ritchie had previously been married to Hannah McDonah (born Mar. 14, 1812, died Nov. 17, 1868). The 1880 Meade County census shows a daughter, Elizabeth Ritchie, born 1871/72, and two laborers, Thomas Holsen and William Whelan on the farm. Chesteen Ritchie died Jan. 14, 1907 and is buried at St. Martin's cemetery in Flaherty.

Cecilia Jane Peak, daughter of Thomas Peak and Theresa Bryan, was born on Sept. 15, 1832. She married Zachariah Jones on Aug. 6, 1868, with Stephen and Margaret Peak as witnesses. As a result of the marriage, she was not named in her father's will, dated Sept. 29, 1868, in which he left his farm and properties to his unmarried daughters⁴⁷. Cecilia Jane and Zachariah both signed the agreement dissolving Thomas Peak's will on Jan. 29, 1872.

Stephen Bryan Peak, son of Thomas Peak and Theresa Bryan, was born in Nelson County on Jan. 12, 1834. He married Margaret Emily Flagherty, daughter of Michael Flagherty in Meade County on Sept. 8, 1857. Margaret Flagherty was born⁴⁷ in Nelson County on July 24, 1835. Stephen B. Peak purchased the 77 acre home farm of Benjamin Peak with a mortgage of $770.00 on September 29, 1860. He sold the farm to Patrick Henry Tewell on Mar. 11, 1868, for $481.69 and payment of a note for $109.00, with interest from 1865, to Mrs. Sarah Peak, and further payment of the all the cost in a suit against him over the note. Children of Stephen and Margaret Peak, identified in the 1880 census and other sources³², include: William Thomas Peak, born July 12, 1858, baptized Aug. 22, 1858; Teresa Rosella Peak, born Nov. 9, 1860, baptized Jan. 15, 1861; Sarah Ann Peak, born Feb. 21, 1863, baptized Mar. 25, 1863; Martin Stephen Peak, born³¹ July 18, 1865, baptized Aug. 18, 1865; Charles Joseph Peak, born Aug., 1867, baptized Sept. 7, 1867; Rhoda Bartholomew Peak, born Dec. 13, 1869, baptized Apr. 23, 1870; Margaret (or Mary) Ellen Peak, born Mar., 1872, baptized May, 1872; John Mitchell Peak, born Aug. 1, 1874, baptized Sept. 20, 1874. All baptisms took place at St. Martin's Church in Flaherty. Family history⁴⁷ relates that during the Civil War, soldiers arrived at the Stephen Peak farm intending to confiscate horses and other materials. They demanded a meal, which Emily Jane, though ill at the time, prepared for them. Stephen became indignant over their behavior, and the soldiers reacted with sympathy, finishing the meal and leaving without taking anything from the farm. Meade County records show that Stephen B. Peak signed the agreement dissolving his father's will on Sept. 29, 1872. Stephen B. Peak died of a heart attack suffered while shaving on May 28, 1898, in Union County, Ky. Margeret Flagherty Peak died in Union County on Aug. 12, 1903. Both are buried⁴⁷ at St. Vincent's cemetery in Union County.

Ellen Elizabeth Peak, daughter of Thomas Peak and Theresa Bryan, was born in Feb. 17, 1835 and is listed in the Meade County census reports for 1850 to 1870. She was one of the four unmarried daughters⁴⁷ to whom Thomas Peak left his farm when he died in 1871 (see Appendix). The marriage records of St. Martin's Church show that Ellen Peak married Charles F. Brown on April 2, 1877.

Barbara Ann (Bibiana) Peak, daughter of Thomas Peak and Theresa Bryan, was born in April, 1837, and is listed in the Meade County census reports for 1850 to 1870. She was one of the four unmarried daughters to whom Thomas Peak left his farm when he died in 1871 (see Appendix). She also signed the agreement dissolving her father's will on Jan. 29, 1872, entered to record Jun. 21, 1872, thereby relinquishing her rights to the farm and property in favor of an equal distribution among the heirs.

Teresa Peak, daughter of Thomas Peak and Theresa Bryan, was born in Nov. 13, 1838. She was named in her father's will, written Sept. 29, 1868, and proven Dec. 11, 1871, as one of the four unmarried daughters to whom he left his farm. By the terms of the will, she forfeited her legal rights to the property, except for a bed, bedding, coverlet, blanket, and quilts, when she married John T. Martin in Meade County on Dec. 27, 1870. Teresa and John signed the agreement dissolving her father's will on Jan. 29, 1872, thus allowing an equal distribution of the property among the heirs. Teresa Peak Martin died⁴⁷ in 1904.

Francis A. Peak, son of Thomas Peak and Theresa Bryan, was born Jan. 17, 1842. He married Margaret Lucretia Peak on Jan. 10, 1865. Margaret Peak, born about 1840, was a daughter of William Peak and Sarah Redmon, so was second cousin to her husband. The family is listed in the 1870 and 1880 Hardin County censuses. Children include: Mary Ellen Peak, born³² Nov. 27, 1865, baptized Mar. 4, 1866 at St. Martin's in Flaherty; Charles T. Peak, born 1867/68; Emily J. Peak, born 1870; Juley A. Peak, born 1871/72; Agnas Peak, born 1875/76; John H. Peak, born 1877/78; James Peak, born about 1877. Francis A. Peak signed the agreement dissolving his father's will on Jan. 29, 1872. Francis A. Peak died Dec. 7, 1913, and is buried⁴⁷ in St. Louis Cemetery in Henderson, Ky.

Benedict Joseph Peak, son of Thomas Peak and Theresa Bryan, was born on Oct. 1, 1844. He married Sarah Ann Skees (born 1843/44) in Meade County on June 4, 1867. The family is listed in the Hardin County census reports starting 1870. Children include: Elizabeth Peak, born 1867/68; Thomas R. Peak, born 1868/69; Richard Peak, born 1874/75; Leo Peak, born 1878/79. Elizabeth Skees (age 60, mother of Sarah Skees Peak) was in the home in 1880. Benedict J. Peak signed the agreement dissolving his father's will on Jan. 29, 1872. In 1900 Benedict Joseph was working on the farm of his brother-in-law and sister, Chesteen and Mary Ann Ritchie. Benedict Joseph Peak died in Jefferson County on Dec. 14, 1914, at age 70.

Monica M. (also listed as Mahale or Martha) Peak, daughter of Charles Peak and Lucy Nevitt, was born Apr. 6, 1816 in Nelson County and married John B. Whelan (born Aug. 14, 1791) in Meade County on Dec. 31, 1850. Their children included: William Benjamin Franklin Whelan, born Apr. 29, 1852, baptized at St. Martin's Church³² on Aug. 15, 1852 with Serilda Jane Peak as sponsor; Mary Lucy S. Whelan, born Apr. 2, 1855, baptized June 25, 1855 with Lucy Peak as sponsor; Elizabeth E. Whelan, born 1857/58. The 1880 Meade County census shows Martha M. Whelan, age 62, head of household, with William B. F., age 27, farmer; Mary L., 25, keeping house; and Elizabeth E., 22, a school teacher. John B. Whelan died Nov. 28, 1861, and Monica M. Peak Whelan died Dec. 9, 1880. Both are buried in St. Martin's cemetery³³.

John K. Peak, born in 1817 in Nelson County, probably a son of Charles and Lucy Peak. He married Mary Eliza Medley (born about 1825, daughter of John B. Medley and Ellen Bryan) on Nov. 18, 1845 in Meade County. Their children include¹⁹: Elizabeth Mahulda Peak, born Dec. 1, 1849, baptized Mar. 20, 1850; Columbus C. Peak, born Feb. 6, 1852, baptized Mar. 7, 1852; Lucy Ellen Peak, born Oct. 14, 1854, baptized Nov. 23, 1854; Catherine Ann (Cassy) Peak, born Jan. 6, 1857, baptized Feb. 22, 1857, married to James J. Thomas on Jan. 20, 1880; John William Peak, born Sept. 18, 1859, married to Sarah Lou Peak, daughter of Charles Henry and Julia Peak, on Feb. 1, 1887; Charles Americus Peak, born May 25, 1862, baptized July 13, 1862, married Sara Lucinda Peak on Mar. 24, 1896 at St. Martin's Church. All baptisms were at St. Martin of Tours in Flaherty, Meade Co. KY. Marriages were in Meade Co. The 1900 Meade County census lists Mrs. Mary Peak, a widow born Sept., 1826, living alone, who may be Mary E. Medley Peak.

Mary Ellen Peak, daughter of Charles Peak and Lucy Nevitt, was born¹⁹ Jan. 20, 1822 in Washington County. She married Absolem Ray (born Jan. 25, 1819 in Washington County), son of John and Sarah Ray, in Meade County on Aug. 18, 1840. Their children included Charles W. Ray, born 1841, listed¹⁹ with wife Victoria Ray and three children in 1870 Hardin County census; Elias Ray, born 1841/42, listed with wife Martha E. Ray and three children in 1870 Hardin County census; Joseph Ray, born 1843/44, listed with wife Annie E. Ray in 1870 Meade County census; Francis M. Ray, born about 1845 in Meade County, married Mary Elisa Peak at St. Martin's on Mar. 30, 1869, son Ambrose Eugene Ray born 1875/76; John Ray, born 1846/47, listed with wife Susanna Ray in 1870 Meade County census; Lloyd Thomas Ray, born May 4, 1849, baptized June 10, 1849 at St. Martin's Church; James Spiridian Ray, born Dec. 13, 1850, baptized Mar. 9, 1851, married Mrs. Mary E. Campbell Buckler on Jan. 21, 1915, at St. Patrick's Church in Stithton; Lucy Ellen Ray, born Oct. 15, 1852, baptized Jan. 16, 1853 at St. Martin's; Stephen Edward Ray, born Sept. 25, 1854, baptized Nov. 23, 1854 at St. Martin's, died Nov. 12, 1856, buried at St. Martin's cemetery; Margaret Jane Ray, born Apr. 25, 1856, baptized June 15, 1858 at St. Martin's; Martha Ellen Ray, born Jan. 9, 1857, baptized May 2, 1858 at St. Martin's; Catherine Ray, born 1861/62; Elizabeth Ray, born 1863/64. Absolom Ray died Mar. 20, 1894. He and Mary Ellen Peak Ray were buried in Stithton, in Hardin County, KY.

Nancy Ann Peak, daughter of Charles Peak and Lucy Nevitt, was born Mar. 4, 1828, and married James M. Redmon (born Dec. 15, 1833) on Jan. 15, 1855. Their children (baptized at St. Martin's Church in Flaherty³²) included: James Edward Redmon, born Oct. 31, 1855, baptized Nov. 6, 1855; Lucy Ann Redmon, born Feb. 24, 1857, baptized Mar. 25, 1857; Martha Florence Redmon, born Jan. 11, 1859, baptized Mar. 25, 1859; John William Redmon, born Oct. 4, 1861, baptized Dec. 7, 1861; Thomas Kelly Redmon, born Oct. 24, 1864, baptized Mar. 12, 1865. Nancy Ann Peak Redmon died May 30, 1868, and is buried in St. Martin's cemetery in Flaherty³³. James M. Redmon died Oct. 3, 1912, and is buried in St. Mary Magdalen cemetery in Meade County³³.

William Richard Peak, born 1828/29, was a son of Charles Peak and Lucy Nevitt. He married Elizabeth Ann Peak (born Feb. 28, 1827, daughter of William Peak and Sarah Redmon) on Jan. 17, 1854 in Meade County. The family is listed in the Meade County censuses of 1860 to 1870. Jane Peak, sister of William, was living in the house in 1860. Children of William and Elizabeth Peak listed in the 1860 and 1870 censuses are: Mary Alice Peak, born Nov. 15, 1854, baptized³² Jan. 15, 1855, died at age 5, buried at St. Martin's cemetery; Charles Joseph Peak, born Jan. 16, 1856, baptized Mar. 26, 1856; Sarah Emele Peak, born Jan. 31, 1858, baptized Mar. 27, 1858; William Edward Peak, born Apr. 24, 1869, baptized June 12, 1869. Elizabeth Ann Peak died Mar. 30, 1877, and is buried³³ at St. Martin's cemetery in Flaherty.

Serilda Jane Peak, daughter of Charles Peak and Lucy Nevitt, was born in 1832 or 1833. She married Joseph William Norris in Meade County on Aug. 16, 1860. Their children, baptized at St. Martin's Church³², included: Lucy Arabell Norris, born May 25, 1861, baptized June 30, 1861, with Ann Priscilla McDonough as sponsor; Elizabeth Alice Norris, born Mar. 16, 1863, baptized May 23, 1863; Martha May Norris, born Apr. 23, 1866, baptized May 31, 1866; Charles Ignatius Norris, born May 21, 1868, baptized Aug. 8, 1868; Joseph William Norris, born May 17, 1870, baptized Aug. 28, 1870; Elizabeth Catherine Norris, born Mar., 1872, baptized May, 1872; Richard Alexander Norris, born Feb. 15, 1874, baptized May 31, 1874, with Margaret Peak as sponsor, married Lottie Geneva Rollaw on Feb. 25, 1949 at St. Joseph Church, Ogden, Utah³².

Ann Priscilla Peak, daughter of Philip Peak and Mary Ann Spalding Nevitt, was born July 12, 1827 in Nelson County and married J. Michael McDonough (born July 15, 1823) in Meade County on Feb. 5, 1848. Their children, baptized at St. Martin's, include: Mary Ann Elisa McDonough, born Feb. 11, 1850, baptized Mar. 30, 1850, with Mary Elisa Peak as sponsor; James Edward McDonough, born Apr. 11, 1852, baptized May 15, 1852, died Jan. 19, 1899, buried at St. Martin's cemetery; William Thomas McDonough, born Aug. 28, 1855, baptized Sept. 23, 1855; John Henry McDonough, born Nov. 9, 1858, baptized Dec. 25, 1858, with Mary Peak as sponsor; Sarah Elizabeth (Lizzie) McDonough, born Apr. 23, 1862, baptized May 31, 1862; Catherine Laura (Katie) McDonough, born Sept. 11, 1864, baptized Oct. 21, 1864; Ada Generose (Jennie) McDonough, born Feb. 4, 1868, baptized Apr. 5, 1868. J. Michael McDonough died on Jan. 21, 1891, and Ann Priscilla Peak McDonough died on Dec. 4, 1898. Both are buried in St. Martin's cemetery in Flaherty³³.

John Peak, son of Philip Peak and Mary Spalding Nevitt, was born in 1829, and married Barbara Bunger (born 1828/29, daughter of William and Elizabeth Bunger) in Meade County on Dec. 3, 1850. A child William Oscar Peak was born Oct. 22, 1851 and baptized Dec. 14, 1851 at St. Martin's Church, with Ann Priscilla McDonah as sponsor. John Peak died about 1857.

Thomas Aaron Peak, son of Philip Peak and Mary Spalding Nevitt, was born in Meade County on Nov. 22, 1830. He married Minerva A. Yeager O'Bannion (born in Meade County in May, 1831), widow of J. H. O'Bannion, on Feb. 3, 1852 in Meade County, with witnesses Charles J. Whelan and Mary Ann Peake present. Minerva Yeager had married J. H. O'Bannion on Aug. 24, 1848. Thomas and Minerva A. Peak are listed in the Meade County census reports starting 1860. Their children are: Margaret Roselie Peak, born Nov. 29, 1852, married John B. French on Jan. 10, 1871, died Aug. 7, 1947; James Leo Peak, born July 2, 1855, married Georgia Ann Norris Cooper on Nov. 22, 1884, died May 26, 1939; Mary Magdeline Peak ('Dillion'), born May 22, 1857, married William Thomas Peak on Aug. 3, 1875, died May 22, 1938; Joseph Philip Peak, born Jan. 5, 1859, married Bridget Ann Carr; Pius Michael Peak, born Dec. 19, 1860, married Minerva Barker on Nov. 22, 1892, died Nov. 6, 1936; Eliza Ellen Peak, born Aug. 27, 1865; died May 22, 1889; married Raymond Thornberry Dec. 30, 1884; Georgie Susan Peak, born Jan. 1, 1871, married Thomas Redmon in 1888, married John Silas Barker on Dec. 29, 1896, died in Jefferson County May 5, 1954; Nora Regina Peak, born Mar. 13, 1872, died Mar. 6, 1889 in Meade County; Hettie B. Peak, born Nov. 27, 1875. William Foley was also living in the house in 1860. In 1900 two children, Nora M. Peak, born Oct. 1889, and Mary E. Peak, born Dec. 1890, were living in the home, as was Minerva Peak's mother, Susan Yeager, who was born in Apr., 1804. Thomas Aaron Peak died in Meade County on July 6, 1907, and Minerva Yeager Peak died in Meade County July 25, 1908. Both are buried in St. Martin's cemetery in Flaherty⁴⁴.

Margaret Frances Peak, daughter of Philip Peak and Rosella Flagherty McDonough was born Sept. 2, 1855, and married Rhoda E. Peak, son of Benjamin Peak and Louisa Edelen, on Jan. 9, 1877 at St. Martin's Church. See Rhoda E. Peak.

Elizabeth Ann Peak, born Feb. 28, 1827, daughter of William Peak and Sarah Redmon, married William Richard Peak, son of Charles Peak and Lucy Nevitt, on Jan. 17, 1854, at St. Martin's Church, with Washington Ray and Mary Ann Peak as witnesses. See William Richard Peak.

Emily Jane Peak, born 1830/31, daughter of William Peak and Sarah Redmon, married Rhoda Joseph Peak (son of Thomas Peak and Theresa Bryan) on Mar. 30, 1853. See Rhoda Joseph Peak.

Lydia Ellen Peak was born Jan. 22, 1831, and married Charles William Howard at her father's house on Feb. 7, 1853. A daughter, Juliann Howard, was born on Dec. 27, 1853 and baptized Jan. 7, 1854 at St. Martin's Church, with Mary Elisa Peak as sponsor. Lydia E. Peak Howard died Feb. 17, 1868, and is buried at St. Martin's cemetery.

Charles Henry Peak, son of William Peak and Sarah Redmon, was born in Feb. 10, 1835. He married Julia Florida Simpson (born 1838/39, baptized June 6, 1839 at St. Rose Priory in Washington County) in Meade County on Jan. 25, 1858. Charles and Julia are listed in the Meade County census reports starting 1860. Their children were all baptized at St. Martin of Tour Church in Flaherty³². These include: Christina Margaret Peak, born Oct. 12, 1858, baptized Jan. 1, 1859; Sarah Lucinda Peak, born June 25, 1861, baptized Aug. 15, 1861; William Henry Peak, born Oct. 19, 1863, baptized Oct. 25, 1863; Lillie Generose Peak, born May 14, 1866, baptized Aug. 16, 1866; Leanor (Linnie) Justina Peak, born Mar. 11, 1869, baptized June 12, 1869; Alexia Ophelia Peak, baptized June 4, 1873; John Arthur Peak, born Jan. 7, 1876, baptized Apr. 3, 1876, died Mar. 28, 1954, buried at St. Martin's cemetery. Julia Simpson Peak died Mar. 12, 1886 and Charles Henry Peak died Oct. 27, 1890. Both are buried at St. Martin's of Tour cemetery.

John M. Peak, born 1837/38, son of William and Sarah Peak, is listed in the 1870 and 1880 Meade County censuses living with his mother Sarah Peak (born Oct. 26, 1805).

Margaret L. Peak, born about 1840, daughter of William Peak and Sarah Redmon, married Francis A. Peak, son of Thomas Peak and Theresa Bryan, on Jan. 10, 1865. See Francis A. Peak.

Mary Elisa Peak, born 1844/45, daughter of William Peak and Sarah Redmon, married Francis M. Ray at St. Martin's Church on Mar. 30, 1869, with Thomas Shircliff and Lizzie Peak as witnesses. Francis M. Ray was a son of Absolem Ray and Mary Ellen Peak. The record states that the couple were related in the third and second degree. Their children, listed in the 1880 Meade County census included: James M. Ray, born 1869/70; William E. Ray, born 1871/72; Marcus Ray, born 1873/74; Ambrose Eugene Ray born 1875/76; Mary E. Ray, born 1877/78; Emma J. Ray, born 1878/79. (The Meade County birth records³⁵ also list two children of Frank M. and Mary E. Ray: Frances C. Ray, born June 12, 1904; Lamar Ray, born Mar. 13, 1907. These would appear to be born too late to be the natural children of Francis M. and Mary Elisa Ray.)

Susan Emily Peak, daughter of Benjamin Peak and Louisa Edelen, was born July 22, 1848 and baptized³² Aug. 27, 1848 at St. Martin of Tour Church, with Ann Peak as sponsor. She married Richard Thomas Vaughn on Sept. 10, 1866 in Meade County. James Madison Peak, son of Benjamin Peak and Louisa Edelen, was born Aug. 24, 1850 and baptized Oct. 13, 1850 at St. Martin's, with Teresa Peak as sponsor. He married M. Tina Christina Wiseman (baptized Oct. 4, 1857 at St. John's Church, Rineyville, Hardin County) on Apr. 18, 1876. The baptismal records at St. Martin's list one child: Ida Alice Peak, born July 2, 1884, baptized Aug. 15, 1884. James M. Peak died in 1929 and is buried at St. James cemetery in Elizabethtown.

William Thomas Peak, son of Benjamin Peak and Louisa Edelen, was born Oct. 1, 1852 and baptized Nov. 16, 1852 at St. Martin's Church³², with Teresa Peak as sponsor. He married Mary Magdeline ('Dillion') Peak in Meade County on Aug. 30, 1875. Mary Magdeline Peak was a daughter of Thomas A. Peak and Minerva Yeager O'Bannion, so was second cousin once-removed to her husband. The family is listed in the 1880 Hardin County census report. Children include¹⁹: Damon V. Peak, born Oct. 27, 1877 in Meade County, married Maggie Fowler May 11, 1898, died Oct. 3, 1962, buried at St. Michael's cemetery in Louisville; Ashley Peak, born Dec. 1878, married Florence French, died Mar. 8, 1953, buried at St. John's, Hardin County; Emmett Jerome Peak, born Nov. 11, 1881, married Emily J. Buford on Jan. 9, 1906, died May 11, 1951, buried at St. John's, Hardin County; Annie Peak, born in June, 1884, married Lee Medley; Agnes Josephine Peak, born Feb. 21, 1886, married Robert Brown, died July 31, 1964; Carrie Peak, born July 1891, married Oscar Vessels, died in 1973 in Detroit, Michigan. William Thomas Peak died in 1927 and Mary Magdeline Peak died May 22, 1938. Both are buried at St. John's cemetery in Hardin County¹⁹.

Leonard Augusta Peak, son of Benjamin Peak and Louisa Edelen, was born Sept. 16, 1854 and baptized Jan. 12, 1855 at St. Martin's Church, with Ann Riney as sponsor. He married Catherine Elizabeth Thomas ('Lizzie', born 1854/55, daughter of William Thomas and Mary Pendleton²⁷) in Elizabethtown, KY, on Feb. 10, 1874, and is listed in the 1880 Hardin County census report. Leonard Augusta Peak, Sr. died Aug. 15, 1937 and is buried at St. James cemetery in Elizabethtown.

Rhoda Edward ("Eddie") Peak, son of Benjamin Peak and Louisa Edelen, was born Aug. 31, 1856, and baptized Oct. 26, 1856 at St. Martin's Church, with Teresa Peak as sponsor. He is listed as Rhoda T. Peak in the 1870 Meade County census. He married Maggie F. Peak in Meade County on Jan. 9, 1877. Margaret Frances Peak, born Sept, 2, 1855, was the daughter of Philip Peak and Rosella Flagherty McDonogh. Both Rhoda and Margaret had their fathers' consent for the marriage. The 1880 Meade County census lists Rhoad Peak (age 24), Margaret F. Peak (age 25, incorrectly identified as daughter-in-law), and Bernard Peak (age 2) living in the home of Philip Peak (age 80). The children of Rhoda E. Peak and Margaret Frances Peak include Bernard Bruce Peak, born Nov. 30, 1877, baptized Feb. 17, 1878 at St. Martin's Church, died Aug. 3, 1953 in Evansville, Indiana, married Carrie Ulsas; Albert O'Connor Peak, born Sept. 28, 1881, baptized Nov. 7, 1881 at St. Martin's. For twenty years Eddie Peak worked as a lamplighter for the Southern Indiana Gas and Light Company⁴⁷. At the start he had 118 lamp lights to attend, but the number gradually increased to more than 900 before electricity was introduced, and the last gas lights finally disappeared from the streets around 1910. Rhoda Edward stayed with the company for a total of 37 years, and was remembered with kindness by many in his declining years because of his highly visible occupation in the gas light days. Rhoda Edward Peak died⁴⁷ of chronic myocarditis on Sept. 12, 1929 in Evansville, Indiana, and Margaret Frances Peak died of bronchial pneumonia on June 10, 1947 in Evansville. Both are buried at St. Joseph cemetery in Evansville.

Benjamin Alexander Peak, son of Benjamin Peak and Louisa Edelen, was born June 25, 1858, and baptized Aug. 22, 1858 at St. Martin's Church, with Cecilia Peak as sponsor. He was married to Mary Theresa Thomas, daughter of William Thomas and Mary Pendleton. The couple had four children⁴⁵: Thomas A. Peak (born 1880, listed in the 1880 Hardin County census report); James Selby Peak, born June 10 (or²⁷ Oct. 6), 1885, married to Loretta Brennan, died Dec. 1, 1947 in Louisville; Hattie J. Peak, born 1891, married to Neil J. Clark (born 1892, died 1940), died 1967; and Elizabeth Peak, married to Homer Hayes. Benjamin Alexander Peak died Mar. 18, 1930 in Hardin County and is buried at St. James cemetery in Elizabethtown. Mary Theresa Thomas Peak died Oct. 14, 1940 in Hardin County.

Simon Peter Peak (also listed as Samuel Peak), son of Benjamin Peak and Louisa Edelen, was born Aug. 14, 1864 and baptized Oct. 4, 1864 at St. Martin's Church, with Eliza Ann Brown as sponsor. He married Cecilia Wiseman (born about 1865) on Feb. 28, 1889. They had a daughter²⁷, Elizabeth Peak. Simon Peter Peak died Sept. 13, 1941 and is buried at St. James cemetery in Elizabethtown.
