Miss Mabel B. Sloyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sloyer, and Oliver Hontz were united in marriage in the Church of the Nativity at noon yesterday. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Dr. G. H. Sterling. At the altar the bride was given away by her father in the presence of immediate relatives and friends of the couple. The bride was gowned in tan silk, with a hat and carried white chrysanthemums. A reception and wedding feast were given at the bride's parents residence, 742 Broadway. Mr, and Mrs. Hontz left amidst a shower of rice and good wishes on a wedding tour and will be home at 742 Broadway after Nov. 1. The gifts to the bride were numerous and valuable. The bride is an accomplished young woman and was graduated from the Central High School as a member of the class of 1905. The groom is a popular employee of the Bethlehem Steel Works.

Mrs. Edna M. Sloyer, 84, of 1006 Cherokee St., Bethlehem, died Wednesday in Leader Rehabilitation Center II, Bethlehem. She was the widow of Wilson S. Sloyer, who died in 1949.

She was a macine operator for Millcrest Manufacturing Company, Foutain Hill, for 22 years before retiring in 1972.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Frank and Henrietta Betz Stahlmann.

She was a member of Cathedral Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem.

Surviving are three sons, Robert W. Sloyer of Coopersburg and Lakeworth, Fla.;m Wilson G. Sloyer of Bethlehem and Earl C. Sloyer of Allentown; a brother, Charles Stahlmann of Astoria, N.Y.; a foster son, Calvin C. Paine of Macungie; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Lester S. Pearson Funeral Home, Inc., 1901 Linden St., Bethlehem, with the Rev. Donald Feyer officiating. Burial will be in Durham Cemetery. Call 12:30 p.m. Saturday to time of services.

He was a maintenance worker in the Macungie plant of Mack Trucks, Inc., Macungie, until retiring in 1987.
Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Harry and Caroline (Wilkens) Paine.
He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

He was an Algebra teacher at Emmaus High School from 1968-1989, where he was affectionately known as Captain Algebra, and a part time professor at LCCC in the 90s. Curtis was a member of the Lehighton American Legion Post 314, Knights of Columbus, Home Brewers Association, a life member of Lehigh Fire Co. No. 1, Lehighton and the Allentown Barber Shop Quartet. He served in the Army during World War II as a Tech 5th Grade. He was a member of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, Emmaus, where he was an active volunteer for many years. Curtis had his pilots license and flew out of Arners Flying Service Inc. in Lehighton. Survivors: Lovingly cared for by nieces, Elizabeth I. and husband Robert J. Mikovitch of Walnutport, Ellen M. and husband Schenley K. Irene M. Sthare, 79, of Walnutport, passed away on October 29, 2005, in the Inpatient Hospice Unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital, 17th and chew streets, Allentown. She was the wife of Curtis R. Sthare. Born in Lehigh Township, she was the daughter of the late Joseph J. and Elizabeth (Sakovitz) Palkovitz. She worked for various mills in the area and also for the former Western Electric, Allentown. She was a Girl Scouts leader for Troop 154, Slatington, for 15 years.

Survivors: Husband; nieces, Elizabeth I. and husband Robert J. Mikovitch of Walnutport, Frances A. Williams of Port Alleghany, Ellen M. and husband Schenley K. Haas of Slatington; grandnieces, Stephanie M. and husband Scott Dorney of Walnutport, Hilary S. and Breana T. Haas of Slatington; grandnephew, Robert M. and wife Denise A. Mikovitch of Nazareth; great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews, Lauren E., Camryn S. and Jacob R. Dorney of Walnutport, Tyler R. Mikovitch of Nazareth. Mrs. Ruby R. LUCKENBACH, 88, of 26 E. 7th St. Northampton, died Tuesday in the home of her daughter, Helen LUCKENBACH of Reading. She was the widow of Howard S. LUCKENBACH. Born in Northampton, she was a daughter of the late Cornelius and Eva (WEITKNECHT) SLOYER. She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, Northampton, where she served as church organist and choir director in the 1920s and was a teacher in both the Sunday school and vacation Bible school for many years. She also played the piano and organ to accompany the silent films at the Roxy Theater, Northampton, for several years. Helen R. Luckenbach, 78, of Reading PA, died on January 29, 2013 at her residence.Helen was born in Northampton, PA, to Ruby Ruth (Sloyer) and Howard S. Luckenbach on Feb 22, 1934. She was the sixth of seven children. Helen graduated in 1955 from the Allentown Hospital School of Nursing with her RN and went on for her BS degree. She received her nurse anesthesiologist certification at St Josephs Hospital in Reading. Helen left her nursing career for a teaching position in the science department at Mt. Penn High School. Until her retirement, Helen enjoyed teaching physics and chemistry and challenging hundreds of students at the Reading area high schools. She was a demanding teacher who enjoyed returning to high school reunions to stay in touch with past students. Helen had a lifelong love of learning and enjoyed taking classes, reading books, and collecting gems and antiques. She was certified in gemology. She enjoyed the water and boating and for years spent her free time on the Chesapeake Bay or yachting around the Caribbean. She took courses in navigation and boat engine repair and had her amateur radio license. She enjoyed traveling and had a love for Europe.
Survivors: Helen was predeceased by her loving companion of over 35 years, Dr. Harry Kaniss. She is survived by her sister, MaryAnn Unangst, of Bath PA. She was predeceased by her five brothers: Howard, Carl, Robert, Rodney, and Sidney. She will be greatly missed by her best friend, her cat Sasha; and her many nephews, nieces, and grand-nephews and nieces.
Services: A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Reformation Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3670 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, PA. Family visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. A luncheon will be served after the service.
Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 498 Bellevue Ave., Reading, PA 19605.
