DEATH: Obituary:  WILLIAM HUNTER. Died on the 2nd inst. at his residence in Douglas township, William Hunter, aged 84 years and 7 months, was born in Kentucky Nov 2, 1797, near Maysville on the Ohio river, and resided there until 12 years old; moved to Clermont county, Ohio with his parents, all remained there three years. From there he went to Harrison County, Indiana, and continued his home there until he was married. When 16 years old in 1812, went down the Ohio and up the Cumberland river with a boat load of flour for the army, followed boating on the river till 1814, when he left the river at Natchez, started home on foot to his parents in Indiana, which was about 700 miles. "There was a fine good jovial company of us when we started, but I found some dark clouds hung before me before reaching home. When I reached home found my parents all right."  Was married May 27, 1821 to Phoebe Woods. Lived together over 41 years, had fourteen children, raised ten to be grown--five boys and five girls. Left Indiana Sept 25, 1852, and came to Appanoose County and remained here until his death. Lost his wife in 1858, after her death married the widow Jackson in 1859, and raised four children, two boys and two girls. Joined the Christian church about the year 1845, and as he says, "tried to live a consistent Christian life ever since."  He was with General Jackson at the battle of New Orleans. He joined the Masonic order in 1830, at Greencastle, Indiana, and was buried with the honors of the order.
