A Family
History
by Linda

I
am a 10th great-granddaughter of Henrie and Maude Jaques and would like
to dedicate this web page to the work begun by William
Henry Jakway. He was born December 6, 1870. In his own words, he was
an "Instructor of Physics at Syracuse University and Northwest University;
Inventions: Designer of this Tree." He designed a family tree which contained
the names of about 3000 descendants of Henrie
and Maude Jaques. These charts were handwritten and contained more
than just people's names. Although he was not the researcher, he did a
tremendously creative work adding their lives to paper, even coping some
of their signatures off old documents. [If someone out there knows the
identity of the researcher, I would appreciate hearing from you.]
The chart was first published in 1938 and was revised in June 1941, January
1943 and finally in October 1945. The final revision also included two
smaller charts-one a supplement for the descendants of Squire
Thomas Jakway/Jackwise and the other his own ancestral roots. Many
of the people on the Tree were alive and purchased the Tree for their own
families. My family purchased two-the original 1938 edition and the 1945
revision that included my father and his brother. This final version also
had the family crest in the bottom left corner.
Like William Henry Jakway, I have not done much research, but have merely
found a new medium with which to share the research of others with the
family. I hope in these pages the work he began can be continued and expanded.
Not only will we find our roots, but each other as well.
