Homepage for John Sentell, the genealogy for the surnames LINCICOME, MURPHY, PLEDGER, SENTELL & WEAVER

This is a webpage for the surnames of Murphy, Pledger, Sentell and Weaver of NW GA and NE AL. My Lincicome family is from the areas of Jackson and Wood Counties in WV and Washington, Monroe and Noble Counties in OH, all of which are neighboring counties. Here are a few of the past family members you can check and compair with your records. Please remember that the dates from hundreds of years ago are approximately and even the ones from the 1800's may be different here than what you have. If the names match please contact me. Do not keep dates that are off by a few days or years from thinking it maybe a match. Here is some of the information I have for you to look over.

LINCICOME:  (The 62,377th most popular last name in the United States)

My Lincicome family comes from the Mid-Ohio Valley area. Some of the cities they were born or died in are Midena (Jackson County) and Parkersburg (Wood County) WV, and Marietta (Washington County), OH. There are two other Ohio Counties where the families were either born, died or lived in which are Noble and Monroe. All five of these counties, in both states, are neighboring counties.

Joseph Lincicome is the oldest generation I have on record. I do not have any dates or his wife's name but I have a son named Nathan Lincicome. Nathan was born in 1770 in the State of Maryland and died on February 28, 1845. Nathan married Lydia Enochs, who's parents were Enoch Enochs & Rebecca Morris, and they had three children: Caleb, Rhoda and James.

Caleb is the first generation in my records where the surname gets changed on how it is spelled. Caleb began to spell his last name Lincicum instead of Lincicome. He was born on December 10, 1796 and died on December 16, 1882 and married Nancy Archer. She was born on October 27, 1813 and died on December 16, 1876. (Nancy's parents were Michael Archer & Margaret Collins). Caleb and Nancy had 10 children: George, Ann, Jesse, Millie, Hannah, Andrew, Nathan, Wesley, Squire & Elijah Lincicum.

Their second child, Rhoda, was born on October 19, 1810 and died on April 30, 1848. She married Usial (Uzel) Bates, who parents were Issac Clark Bates Sr. & (1) Katherine (Katie) Moore. Uzel was born in 1808 and his death date is unknown. They had eight children: Issac, Elizabeth, Cyrus, Sarah, Cyntha, Daniel, Mary Jane & Phebe Bates.

Their third child, James, is where my family comes from. He was born on March 24, 1812 and died on July 9, 1910. He married Mary Ann Weekley on January 24, 1839. (Mary Ann's parents were Benjamin Weekley & Madalina Alltop) She was born on October 7, 1820 and died on January 7, 1882 and they had 13 children: Levi, Benjamin, Phebe, William, Unnamed infant, Sarah J., Achison, Henry, Celia Jane, Elizabeth, Catherine (Katty), Naaman & Emma A. Lincicome.

Levi is the next family member where my genealogy comes from. Levi was born on January 26, 1840 and died on December 25, 1912. He married Geraldine McKee on October 17, 1859 in Noble County, OH. (Geraldine's parents were Henry Martin McKee & (1) Nancy Morris) She was born on June 01, 1843 and died on March 24, 1912 and they had 11 children: Albert F. Lincicome, James Swazy (Swazy) Lincicome, William (Willie) Henry Lincicome, Winfield (Win) Lincicome, Matin Lincicome, Mary Lincicome, Martha Elizabeth Lincicome, Ackison (Ack) E. Lincicome, Carl C. Lincicome, Laura (Lora) Belle Lincicome and John Emmer Lincicome. John Emmer was born on October 25, 1882 and died on November 08, 1958. He married Cora Esther Clark on December 25, 1906 in Marietta, OH. Cora was born on November 16, 1885 and died on May 20, 1969 and they had John and Cora had 12 children: Gladys Ethel (Ethel), Delmar E., Carrie Jean, Elmer Edgar, Nolia Helen (Helen), Morris Gale, Harry Edwin, Clark Floyd, Glenn Lloyd, Maxine, Don and Inez Marie Lincicome.

MURPHY:  (The 59th most popular last name in the United States)

The earliest Murphy I have in my records is Amos Murphy. I have that he was born in Ireland and died in TN. I do not have any dates on him but his son, Moses Murphy was born on 11/08/1785 and he married Susannah Creech on 12/24/1807. She was born on 10/08/1792 and died 02/23/1825. I have that Moses and Susannah had eight children; Mary, Jeremiah, John, Sara, Stephen, Samuel, James, and Sarah. My genealogy comes from Jeremiah Murphy who was born on 08/11/1811 and died 11/06/1868. He married Jennie Dorsett who was born on 10/05/1816 and died 08/06/1910. I do not know how many children they had but their son named John Frances Murphy, who changed his own name to John Terry Murphy is my g-g-grandfather and he was born 11/02/1849 and died on 07/30/1937. He married Emily (Emma) Elizabeth Weaver on 08/20/1873 in Chattooga County, GA. She was born on 04/11/1855 and she died on 09/11/1903. Both John and Emma are buried at the Berea Church of Christ just south of Berry Springs in Cherokee County, AL. John and Emma had 11 children; Mary Ida (Ida), Albert Lee, Jerry Monroe, John Luke (Luke), Hatti Aretta, Hattie Pluma (Pluma), James Robert, Thomas Edward, Emily Ethel (Ethel), Deed Deforest and Coleman Ezekiel (Zeke) Murphy. My g-grandfather, Jerry Monroe Murphy was born on 07/17/1878 and died on 07/30/1971. He married Sally Morris and she was born on 02/28/1884 and died on 07/26/1969. Both Jerry and Sally are also buried at the Berea Church of Christ. Jerry and Sally had seven children; Bradner Columbus, Loy Francis, Bengiman Gordan, Lora Bell, Paul Monroe, John Robert (Rob) and Grace Gartrell Murphy. My grandmother, Grace Gartrell Murphy was born on 01/22/1916 and died on 10/27/1998. She married Clarence Raymond Sentell on 05/05/1935 in Cherokee County, AL. He was born on 12/05/1912 and died on 12/13/1989. Clarence and Grace had five children; Francis Elizabeth, Clarence David, Robert Monroe, John Frank (Frank) and Ralph Donald Sentell.

PLEDGER:  (The 12,160th most popular last name in the United States)

My g-g-g-grandmother, Sarah Jane Pledger, married George Monroe Weaver and mother to Emma Weaver who married John Terry Murphy, was a full blooded Cherokee Indian and was born in 1828 in Elbert County, GA and died in 1888 in Cherokee County, AL. Her birth parents are unknown because when the Trail of Tears started she was adopted by Thomas Henry and Nancy (Ford) Pledger. I have that Thomas Henry was born on 09/21/1794 and died on 03/14/1880 and that Nancy was born in 1800 and died on 02/22/1848. Also in my records I have that both Thomas and Nancy are buried in Cave Springs, GA in Floyd County. After Nancy died, Thomas married Lucinda Parks who was born on 12/20/1815 and died on 07/14/1883.

I have the parents of Thomas Henry as Thomas (birth is est. as being around 1764 and his death was on 07/24/1846) and Nancy Ann (Leavister) Pledger. Thomas' parents are Joseph (birth is est. as being about 1735 and his death is est. as being around 1782) and Mary (McKeen) Pledger. Joseph's parents are John (birth is est. as being around 1705 and died 09/1743) and Mary (Johnson) Pledger. John's parents are John (born November 27, 1680 and died 01/ of either 1743 or 44) and Dorothy (Roberts) Pledger. John's parents are John (birth est. as being in 1650) and Elizabeth (Lefevre) Pledger.

It is also thought that Thomas and Nancy adopted Sarah's brothers and sisters because the dates of births of all the children are in order. If this is true, I do not know which ones are her true brothers and sisters and which ones are here adopted brothers and sisters or if all the children are her true brothers and sisters. Here are all nine children's names to Thomas and Nancy or the brothers and sisters names to Sarah Jane

1. Allen Pledger was born approximately 1816 in Elbert County, GA and died after 1880 in Walker County, GA. He married Mary M. Gartman on April 08, 1841. She was born approximately 1824 in GA and died after 1880 in Walker County, GA.

**ANY PLEDGER FAMILY MEMBER WHO HAS MORE INFORMATION ON ANY OF THESE FAMILIES OR HAS HEARD OF A STORY WHERE A PLEDGER FAMILY ADOPTED AN INDIAN CHILD, PLEASE EMAIL ME. IT IS THOUGHT THAT THOMAS AND NANCY ADOPTED SOME OR ALL OF SARAH JANE'S BROTHERS AND SISTERS**

SENTELL: (The 23,395th most popular last name in the United States)

My Sentell genealogy starts back in with John Sentell was was born around 1680 in Exeter, England. His son was Samuel Sentell, who was born in 1700 and he married Mary Hatcher. They had Jonathon L. Sentell who was born on 05/26/1729 and died in 02/1799. Jonathon married a lady named Ann. We do not know her last name for sure but I have seen it as both Sterling and Williams. Jonathon and Ann had four children; William, Samuel (who would become Sgt. Samuel Sentell), Johnathon (this is the way I have it recorded as being spelled) and Sterling Sentell. A large unanswered question and family fued begins here. It is said that when Jonathan died he left more to one son than he did to the other three sons. Because of this a fued began within the family and some Sentells began to spell their last name Sentell and some spelled it Sentelle, to tell the difference on which side of the fued you went with. ALSO, it is unknown which of the four sons is my grandfather. One of these had a son named John Jonathon Sentell and he married Harriet Soper McGuire. John and Harriet had five children; Charles M., Emma Catherine, John Jackson, Allen Tupper and Lewis Culbreath Sentell. My g-g-grandfather, John Jackson, was born on 05/09/1855 and died on 02/25/1938 and he married Martha Jane Wade on 10/24/1876 in Atlanta, GA. She was born on 12/06/1858 and died on 01/06/1927. Both are buried in Berry Springs, AL in Cherokee County in the Alexander Cemetery. John and Martha had ten children; Mary Rosa Elizabeth, Charlie Robert David, James (Jim) Allen, Atline (Lizzy) Tryphenia, Cora Lilly, John Jasper, Dora Jane, Nancy Ribbon, Lucy Viola and Samuel Sentell. My g-grandfather, John Jasper, was born on 03/30/1889 and died on 02/05/1983 and married Bertie Ada Morrison. She was born on 02/13/1893 and died on 11/09/1977. Both are buried in the Berea Church of Christ. John and Bertie had four children; Clarence Raymond, John Lewis (J.L.), Mildred Jane and Lillie Mae Sentell. My grandfather, Clarence Raymond Sentell married Grace Gertrell Murphy.

Jacob Thomas Weaver is my next grandfather and he was born in August 1790 in Mecklenburg County, NC and died on June 10, 1848 in Dutch Cove, AL in Cherokee County. He married Barbara Riche on March 14, 1810 in Caberrus County, NC and she was born in 1791 in Cabarrus County, NC and died on January 08, 1869 in Lawrence County, AL.
