Part I: Catherine ROTH, my ancestor

Born "15 Aug 1812" per a catalogue of Moravian women entry circa 1831, manuscript in the collection of the Moravian Archives, Bethlehem, PA. Corroborated by obituary 04 March 1898, the Bethlehem Globe Times. She was born in a non-Moravian "Settlement," per the Moravian Archives. She was born in "Lower Nazareth Township," Northampton Co., PA, the "daughter of John ROTH (c.1785-c.1855) of Hecktown," Lower Nazareth Township, per husband's obituary of 7 Sep 1891.
"Bap. and confirmed in the [Christ] Lutheran [and Reformed] Church at Schoenersville, by Rev. [Johann Conrad] YEAGER, [d. 1832, itinerant]." "...When fifteen years of age [c.1827-8], she came to Bethlehem and joined the Moravian Church." per obituary 04 March 1898, the Bethlehem Globe Times. She was allowed to join the congregation in 1831 per the Moravian Archives, at age 19. She may have immediately joined the Moravian Church and lived in the congregational Sister's House, or she may have attended the Moravian school for girls as a boarding student and joined the church at a later date.

Arrived Bethlehem, Northampton Co., PA with single brethren in the charge of John Henry SEIDEL on the Moravian ship "Irene." NY to England 06 Apr 1756, arrived NY 02 June 1756, per Transactions of the Moravian Historical Society, (MHS) Vol. V, No. 2. Became Moravian missionary in PA and OH.
Mar. 16 Aug 1770 Maria Agnes PFINGSTAG b. 04 Apr 1735 in Wirsche, Wurttemberg, d. 25 Feb 1805 bur. Nazareth Moravian Church, Northampton Co., PA. "Tscheschequanick" (Sheshequin) on the Susquehanna River per mother's Lebenslauf, Native American village later known as Ulster, Ulster Twp., Bradford Co., PA. Moravian missionaries visited from 1766, Moravian mission from 1769 to 1772. "John was an innkeeper for a time in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, and its first postmaster. He was an ordained Congregational minister and served a congregation in Mount Hope, Orange County, New Jersey. Later he served as a Presbyterian minister in North Moreland, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania," per MMB.

"John Lewis ROTH was taken to Pennsylvania when not quite one year of age. He educated himself [at the Moravian schools] Nazareth Hall, [and] Bethlehem, Pa...; "History of Tuscarawas County, Ohio," Chapter Five.
Mar. c.1793 "Miss BECK." Per MMB "...later he removed to Bath, Pa..." Ludwig / Lewis in Moore Twp., Northampton Co., PA Federal Census 1830 and 1840 and died there in 1841.

Bur. Lutheran Church, Bath, Northampton Co., PA. Last request for funeral included references to the Prodigal Son. His tombstone bears the following inscription: "Zum Anderken au Ludwig ROTH, geboren 4th Juli, 1773. Gestorben 25th September 1841, alter 68 Jahre, 2 M., 21 Tage," per MMB.

"In 1818 John David was postmaster at Fryesburg [now Coopersburg], Lehigh County, and that same year was elected to the House of Representatives (whether U. S. House or State is not known)." In 1821, moved to Butler Co., PA per MMB.
