This photo was made by Mildred Maupin ca. 1970 before the old cabin was torn down. Two rooms were added after Samuel E. Gay's death. Mildred, daughter of John and Ozra (Gay) Maupin and great-granddaughter of Samuel and Elizabeth (Wilson) Gay, was born in one of these additional rooms. The little log cabin served as the home place after Samuel and Elizabeth moved from Monroe CO, TN and settled on their McMinn CO, TN farm adjacent to Joe Cline's farm, which was just across the county line in Monroe CO, TN.
In the foreground is a field of tobacco planted and tended by Mildred's uncle Bob Gay. He was the son of John Samuel Leonard and Alice America (Lewis) Gay, who built their house nearby on the same farm. Many, many thanks to Mildred for sharing this and other photos with me!
