Letter from Thomas Christmas O'Mary to his wife, Elizabeth Arnold O'Mary of Carroll County, Georgia. Thomas is in the Georgia 56th regiment.

Dalton ga
April 19th 1864

Dear wife
I wil rite you a few lines to let you no that I am wel tho I dont feel quite as wel as I have for some time. I hope those lines may find you all wel. I want to see you all verry bad and I want to here from you all verry bad.. I have note reed a letter from you sence __. __. ______ come. I hope you have not forgotten me. I think of you ____ how impacient. I ___ you would rite. I rite to you every week. It is a pleasure to me to hear from home but it would be a great deal more to be there. we have a large place prepared in our brigade for meeting. we have some good meetings. a man by the name of James Lingey is sentenced to be hang for the act of mutiny. I think he belongs to 43rd regt Ala ____ I think he belongs to _____ ____ 8 men belonging to ____ Ala too was sentenced to be shot. they were ________. we have a heap of cold weather up here. the spring is backward. the prosperity of our country looks ____. I wil have to quit for a while I have to go on a great revue in a short time. we have now come in from the ____ which was a great ___ of men and dust. I wish you all could of seen the men and officiers and citizens. that was pleasant to day. it was a sight to behold almost to one of in that have seen so many men it would have ben a show to you I know. I want you to rite how the people are making out. in general our mail has come ____. to day I got no letter. I hope I wil get a long one soon. betty I think that you & Tommey babe and ____ can rite to me. I think Pap & Mother must rite too. I want to hear from all the ______. send them sweete little children you dont no how bad I do want to see them. the boys are generally wel. John has a ____ on his face tho it is better. Brooks Thomas' sister was here the other day. she is a fine looking girl. I want to no if stokes is at home yet or not and how linea is geting a long. give my respects to all inquiring friends. I must close. I wish to be remembered in the prears of all the good people their.
