Decater georgia
Sept 30th 1863
Dear brother and sister
I seet my self to drop you a few lines to let you no that I am well at this
time hoping those few lines may find you all well. I have nothing of importance
to wright to you at this time. I hant drawn any money yet. they say we will
draw soon. we have drawn our army. we have to drill every day 3 hours A day.
thomas I want to see you verry bad but I want you to stay at home as long as
you can. I want you to wright to me as soon as you get this and let me here
from you all. I hant herd from you since I left home. I hope the war will soon
close so we can come home to stay in peace. that would be the happyest time in
the world with me. I dont no when I will get to come A gain to see you all.
they say we are attached to long streets corp and if we are we may go to
virginia. I dont know whether it is so or not. Dear sister I want to see you
really bad but I cant see you now but I hope the time will soon come when we
can all meet in peace one time more. Lord send the time speedily. I want to see
you verry bad. I want you to wright to me as soon as you get this. we have
moved from the stone mountain to decater in 7 miles of atlanta. I dont no how
long we will stay here at this place. I hant herd from my sweet and harmless
dove towards the river from your house. I want to here from _____ verry bad. it
hant rained here since I got here. it is mity dry here. tell susan
