LOCAL PHYSICIAN
DIES AT OFFICE
Dr. Henry Cook
Pope, 75, died at 4:30 pm Friday in his office at the Pope Hospital of a heart attack. The physician had been ill last week but had resumed his duties at the hopsital on Tuesday.
In 1940, Dr.
Pope, along with his sons, Dr. Mason Glenmore
Pope, and the late Dr. Russell Lee Pope, opened the hospital on North
Second Street.
Dr. Pope was
born in Knox County, KY and attended
the University of Lousiville School of Medicine. For 32 years, he practiced medicine in Kirksville. He was a member of the Kirksville Christian
Church, the Madison County Medical Society and the Kentucky Medical Society. He is survived, besides his son, by his
wife, Mrs. Della Ramsey Pope; a sister, Mrs. Daisy Belle Pope Vaughn Cline, Knoxville, Tenn.; a brother, Charles H. Pope, Burgin; two grandchildren,
Glenna Mason Pope and Miles Henry Pope; several nephews and one niece.
Funeral Services
will be held at the residence on Lexington Rd at 3 p.m. (CDT) Monday with Dr.
F. N. Tinder officiating, assisted by the Rev. W. R. Royce, Burial will be in
the Richmond Cemetery, Madison Co., KY.
Pallbearers will be Steeley Terrill, George Baker and four nephews. Honorary pallbearers will include memebers of the Madison County Medical Society together with Oren L. Collins.
The body will
be removed from the Oldham, Roberts, and Powell Funeral home to the residence
at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Dr. Henry Cook Pope was married to
Della Ramsey (April 26, 1886 to Jan. 9, 1968).
He was the son of Joshua Tye Pope and Samantha Jane Foley.
Pope Hospital was in downtown
Richmond, Madison Co., KY on North Second St. in which he and his sons founded.
