Queen Bee

Queen Bee

"The Queen Bee, a fully rigged sailing ship of 726 tins, was built in Sunderland in 1859. She first came to New Zealand with immigrants in 1866. Described as a fine, roomy vessel, she made 11 voyages to New Zealand, calling at all four main ports and Napier and Nelson.

She was wrecked on August 7, 1877 at Farewell Spit without loss of life."

Francis, George and William Hebden Bennett (all born in Wellington), returned to NZ on this ship after completing their education in England.
