A YORKVILLE ARREST
A Truck Farmer Charged With Firing a Shot Gun to Kill
Christof Scharff, aged 38 years, a truck farmer living near the extreme western end of Yorkville, was taken to prison this morning in default of $500 bail.  Scharff was charged with assault and battery with intent to kill, the prosecutor being Michael Murphy.  Squire C. Ackerman heard the case.  From the testimony of the prosecutor it appears some person during last night or early this morning called for Murphy when the latter's wife raised the window of her house, which is on Market St. a few doors east of Demmerling's Hotel.  The person standing on the pavement fired the contents of a shotgun through the window and the shutter.  The witness could not tell whether it was Scharff or not except by his voice.

There has been considerable bad blood brewing lately, or it is said by many since York Farm colliery paid its employees.

Scharff is very industrious German, and has a lease on five acres of land from the Lehigh Valley Coal Co., but it is alleged that Scharff is tantalized by a certain crowd who are aware of his weakness and shortcomings.

No doubt during his imprisonment excerpt he can find bail $300 or $400 worth of produce now in the ground will be either destroyed or stolen or cattle driven upon the land to eat it up.
