Although this page is dedicated to the families of the South Side of the Neuse River,  we certainly welcome all families of Lenoir County.

The families that come from these townships were proud people.  They loved Their families, friends and also their land.  They didn't have  time for many luxuries.  Most of their time was spent caring for their families, crops, and helping their neighbors whenever possible.  Most homes were miles apart and  transportation wasn't the greatest.  They may spend hours traveling to see a family member or friend.  They all believed in God and made time for him on Sundays.  I have spoken  with a lot of elderly from the communities, and they remember sitting around the fire at night while their parents  would read from the Bible.  It seemed this was a moment of togetherness that was looked forward to by everyone. I remember my grandmother, Ella Moody Howard tell me "With all the chores to be done every day, starting at day break and  ending at dusk, no one had time to sit around and swap stories.  After supper, when everyone had eaten and the kitchen cleared,  we would all gather around my fathers chair and listen as he  would tell stories from the Bible.  He liked telling the bible stories and would always include sciptures that were of great comfort to us all.   I can remember looking up at him and his face  would  be glowing with love.  You could feel the love just radiating out from him to us all.  I can  remember drawing closer and hugging his legs ever so gently cause I knew they were sore and  tired from the days work."

We are hoping that with the making of this web site, it will bring these friends and families close together again.
