She died Sept. 30, 1880.

Lydia died in 1880 of typhoid fever while on a wagon train going west with her family. Her husband, Charlie Cagle, sold her long hair to a buggy whip maker to get money for a proper burial for her. He returned to Newton County, Ar. with the remainer of his family, including a daughter born shortly before Lidia died.
