CAHAWBA VALLEY (Baptist?) Cemetery - Bibb or Dallas Co., AL - Thursday, 06-Jan-2000 18:59:59

John B. HODGENS / HODGINS d. 16 Nov. 1854, Bibb Co., Alabama - buried in Cahawba Valley Church cemetery (South Western Baptist Newspaper; Tuskegee, Alabama - March 15, 1855).

I need help finding this Cemetery; it doesn't seem to be in Bibb Co (although, maybe I just haven't found the knowledgeable person who has heard of it), and am suspecting it may be in Dalles Co (around Cahaba). IF YOU KNOW of it, or have info about John's wife, Mary (supposed to be of PA and buried in or around Greeneville, SC) OR his English ancestors, please email me -- [email protected]

Dozier, Milam surnames - Saturday, 26-Jun-1999 17:18:20

I am looking for ancestors of my grandparents, Daniel Webster Dozier and Lucy Milam. I believe both were born in West Virginia- Daniel died in 1960 approx. age 84, and Lucy died approx. 1958. Daniel and Lucy's children were Lee, Maude, Carolyn (Ruhl), Pearl (Ripley, Byers), Frank, Harry, Lawrence, and Wayne. I believe that Daniel's father was named John, and Daniel had several brothers and sisters, but the only ones I know of are twin girls named Net and Ett (could have been Nettie and Ettie)- the family moved to Columbus, Ohio. I would appreciate any links to the Dozier or Milam family name-

Comments: Joanne, enjoyed your web pages. It shows you really enjoy html. I can relate to your story about being satisfied to being only the aunt. I too came from a good size family of 8. Six survive. Being the oldest girl, I was in charge! So I too feel I have raised a family, my mothers. My cousin and I are getting into the genealogy search together. We are really enjoying it. Good luck with your searches! Rose

Comments: I have been searching for info on how cemeteries are managed, formed, and maintained. I would like to decorate my fathers grave with more than plastic. So far, the cemetery where he is located only allows decorations up for a week or so. Are there some regulations that require this? I have checked with a few other cemeteries in the area and they all have the same policy. Mowing is the reason. Do you have any sources or assistance? I have been searching for months on why this is so. I have tried EVERYthing I can find on the internet and would like this policy changed. Any idea on how-to?

Your website shows the hard work and HEART you put into it. I applaud you! Reading the taped conversation with Gram was a treat! I wished that I had done the same with my grandma....she had many great stories about "the old country"....etc. I am guessing you and I are close in age. I am 34. I have my Hungarian family tree framed and hanging in my foyer. It dates back to the 1600's. I would love to do what you've done! You have given me inspiration....any advice would be appreaciated. Software? I read that your grandmother's family dropped the "i". I've heard (not sure if true) that if a Hungarian family name ends in and "i" or "h"....it is a noble name. Keep up the good work! Comments: Your Dad and I first met in college (1960) at the University of Dayton. Within a year, I met your Mom and her best high school friend (my future wife) Helen Chabek. Together, Helen and I watched you and your brothers & sister grow. We drifted our ways in the mid 70's only to be brought back together after the passing of your Dad in 1996.

Comments: JoAnne, I was inspired by this evening's conversation to see if I could find your page on the WEB. I glanced through and what I saw was interesting! I am sure you will keep searching and I'll check back from time to time. Just remember that when you check out other links, the name was anglicized when your great grandfather emigrated to America. In the AustroHungarian empire the family name was Stari. This might help your search. Have you been to the WRHS library in University Circle? They have a lot of archive material from past census' The little searching that has been done has located some other addresses in the city for relatives on your Grandmother Stary's side of the family. Happy searching!

Comments: JoAnne, What a great site! I always knew you were the brains of the family! Seriously I like the format alot, it is nice for me because I do not know much about that side of the family tree and it gives me an avenue in which to investigate. It is also nice to see oneself in the grander scheme of things. Two thumbs up on an excellent job and a great dedication. Love ya, Patty
