Descendancy Charts

(updated 15 February 2002)

Divider

Here you will find the descendany charts for the four main names in my family tree plus a little bit of history on each family. The to/from dates represent documented dates of the family's beginning and end. To my way of thinking, a family dies when there are no male heirs to carry on the name.

Paternal Family

Maternal Family

The Stary Family
(1876 to present)

Stary, originally spelled Stari, is Czech meaning "old". It is also a term of endearment used between a husband (stari) and wife (stara). Frank Stary immigrated in 1909 from Bohemia, now the Czech Republic, by way of Germany. His wife, Mary, and two sons, Frank and Louis, followed in 1913. The family settled on Cleveland's west side where they continue to flourish.

The story of the Lidice massacre has been handed down for generations. I've been unable, so far, to determine if I lost any family members as a result.

The Murany/Muranko Family
(1840 to present)

Andrew Murany's birth name was Muranko. He changed it to the Hungarian version, Muranyi, after joining the Hungarian railroad. He immigrated to America in 1907 to find a better life for his family. His wife, Maria, followed with 7 children in 1908. Sometime after they settled in Ohio, the "i" was dropped from the surname. One of the sons shortened the name even more dropping the "y".

The Kozikowski Family
(1884 to 1986)

Adam Kozikowski immigrated to America from Poland in 1907. To the best of this researcher's knowledge, he lived in Cleveland, Ohio his entire life. After his first wife, Anna, died in 1936, Adam remarried gaining four stepchildren who kept their father's name. Although Adam's bloodline is still alive, the family name died when Frank Kozikowski changed his birth name to Ross.

The Vargo Family
(1864 to present)

Not much is known about this side of my family. There are indications that the name may have been "Varga" at one point in time. Stephen Vargo and his family came to Ohio from Galeton, Pennsylvania but immigration to America is unknown.

The Tarnay-Turdos-sy Family
(abt 1590 to present)

This is the oldest line in my family. Information was generously provided by Dennis Tarnay. This family married into the Murany/Muranko family.
