Lillie Steinbrecher10, born May 16, 1860 in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan; died June 20, 1936 in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan; married Japthet N. Piercey 1901 in Omak, Washington. Notes for Lillie Steinbrecher: Lillie: Third child and oldest daughter of William and Mary. She contacted Japthet M. (Jay) Piercey through a matchmaker or lovers column in a tabloid newspaper. When she arrived in Omak, Washington, they were married that same day. Lillie was a strong church member and did a lot of entertaining in her home. In later years after Jay died, she needed surgery. She and her daughter-in-law Lucille and grandson Thaddeus (Thad) went to Detroit. It was on this trip, in Detroit, where Lillie passed away. She was sitting in a rocking chair when Lucille returned to the room, and found Lillie had died. From "Methow Valley Pioneers" CD Lillie was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, three houses from Henry Ford. They were the same age and friends. Lillie had a good job and was not interested in marriage. Her family felt like she should be married and kept encouraging her to find a husband. She tired of being harassed, so when she was approximately 33 years old she enteredher name on a mail bride list and started corresponding with Jay Piercey at Winthrop. Eventully she came by train, to Winatchee, WA and by boat to Pateros, WA where she was met by Jay Piercey. They married and settled on the homestead. Marriage arrangements are not known. 8 years after Jay and Lilly were married in 1897, Newland Piercey (their only child) was born April 16, 1905. In the spring of 1936 Lilly went to Detroit, Michigan to have a goiter operation. A month or two after the operation, Lilly died of a heart attack while still in Detroit. She is buried in Detroit. More About Lillie Steinbrecher: Burial: June 1936, Detroit, Wayne, Michigan Cause of Death: Heart attack Occupation: 1890, clerk Residence: 1890, 683 Fort St. W., Detroit, Michigan11 Notes for Japthet N. Piercey: From "Methow Valley Pioneers" CD Very little information is known about Jay Piercey. It is thought he was born and raised in Kentucky. Jay served in the Union Army. No dates or data relating to this fact is available except we (Lucille Piercey at the time) have two buttons that were taken from an old uniform that was disposed of after his death in 1928. Jay was a horticulturist and traveled a lot. He homesteaded and built a small "shack" north of Winthrop approxiamately 3 miles, on the west side of the Chewuch River. Jay and Lilly eventually built a larger two-story house on the homestead thanks to money inherited by Lilly. Jay developed a dairy operation on the homestead, using hired help since he still worked as a horticulturist. Jay spent his last 2 or 3 years suffering and eventually dying from stomach cancer. He is buried in Winthrop, WA. More About Japthet N. Piercey: A. K.
