Ratliff Cemetery
On March 22,1997 Lamar Eddins, of Cason Old Field, took me to the Ratliff cemetery,
which is located at Cason Old Field. Take the road to the right, which runs beside New
Hope Meth-odist Church. This is state road 1110 known as Mayesville Road. Travel 3.6
miles. There will be an unnamed dirt road known as state road 1111. It appears the street
sign (name) has been broken off. Travel this dirt road 1.2-mile and then you will take a left
on a dirt path leading into the woods. There was room enough to drive my truck down
this rough path but after traveling 0.3 miles I didn’t feel like it didn’t want to get stuck
down here so we walked the rest of the way which was probably another 0.6 miles. We
came to a clearing. There was a deer stand to the right and to the left was the cemetery in
a grove of trees. You could see the tall tombstones when you came to the clearing. These
were some beautiful white marble tombstones. It appears the cemetery had been taken
care of. I was amazed that these old monuments had not been destroyed and also amazed
that because of their age that the inscriptions were still readable.
