Eli and Louisa's Story

Eli Stringfellow was born in Barnwell County, SC about 1818. His parents were Wiley Stringfellow and Nancy Youngblood Stringfellow. Eli moved with his father Wiley, to Talbot or Marion County Georgia about 1831.[source-AS]

Eli married Louisa Favors on June 3,1840, in Talbot County, Georgia. Louisa was born in January of 1823 in Georgia. On their marriage certificate, her name is spelled "Louizer".[source-HS,GS,JS,SJ] Louisa's sister Caroline married Darling P. Stringfellow, and her other sister Elizabeth married Darling T. Stringfellow. [source-HS] At the time of the Federal Census in 1850, he and Louisa were living on a farm near his father Wiley in Marion County. At this time they had 4 children: William, John, Martha, and Joseph. By the time of the 1860 census, they had brought 4 more children into the world: Nathaniel, Simon, Elizabeth, and baby Eli Jr. [source-AS]

At the beginning of the Civil War, Eli Sr. was in his forties. Being too old to serve on the battlefield, he helped out his state by joining the Confederate Militia of the State of Georgia, 955th District of Marion County. [source-AS] Eli's younger brothers Darling and Wiley did join the Confederate Army. We will tell more of their story later.

Eli and Louisa worked on that farm in South Georgia for years. Besides that, we know very little about their life there. It seems that by 1870/71, Eli had died, as he shows up in no records after 1869. It is possible that he and Louisa had moved. [source-JS] We do not know when they died exactly, or where they are buried.
