John and Martha's Story

John Stringfellow was born in Talbot County, Georgia between 1840-43. His parents were Eli Stringfellow and Louisa (Louizer) Favors. John is noted in the 1850 Census of Marion County as part of his father Eli's family. [source-AS]

John married Martha Rutherford on January, 24, 1860 in Buena Vista, Marion County, Georgia. Martha was born in January of 1835.[source-AS]

During the 1860's John fought in the Civil War, and Martha received assistance from Marion County while he was away. [source-HS]

John and Martha worked on a farm in a region of South Georgia that had been in the family for years. This may well be the same farm that Wiley had established 2 generations earlier. This photo from about 1895-1907 tells their story better than any list of facts and documents we currently have:
