John Jerome was born on 21 Sep 1771 in Connecticut. He married Margaretha Stickle, daughter of Frederick Stickle and Elizabeth. Margaretha was born 12 Jan 1777 in New York and died on 24 Aug 1862 in Durham, Greene, NY.

John moved to Delaware Co. NY sometime between 1795 and 1799 where he remained until about 1816-1817 when he moved to Cornwallville, Greene Co., New York. It was here that he became acquainted with the Peters family and in 1850 he was enumerated in the census residing in Durham.

John died on 19 Jan 1855. His will was probated on 15 Sep 1856 listing his heirs: daughters, Clarissa H., Elizabeth, Sally, Rebecca, Margaret, Amanda and Nancy; sons, Andrew and Chauncey. Executors: sons, Andrew and Chauncey Witnesses: Ellsworth Strong and William Earl.

Elizabeth Jerome (John) was born on 12 Apr 1795 in Gallatin, Columbia, NY. She married Daniel Peters, son of Richard Peters and Susannah (Halstead) on 03 Dec 1812. Daniel was born on 02 Dec 1793 in Clifton Park, Saratoga, New York and died 04 Jan 1838 in Harpersfield, Delaware, NY.

Elizabeth was counted in a census in 1850 in Harpersfield, Delaware, New York living with her daughter Margaret and son-in-law Luther Minshell - as were her younger children Louisa, Fernanda, and Elizabeth. In 1860 she was living her daughter Louisa in the household of Eben and Theodora VanAmburg in Harprsfield. Elizabeth died prior to the 1870 census, passing on 27 Apr 1869 in Harpersfield, Delaware Co., New York.

  12. Elizabeth Peters - born 06 Jun 1836 in Harpersfield, Delaware, NY. She married Samuel McCune on 15 Oct 1856. Samuel was born on 15 Aug 1823 in Bovina, New York and died 05 Dec 1899 in Jefferson, NY.
 
 
Sally Jerome (John) was born on 20 Feb 1797 in New York. She married Russell Goff on 12 Dec 1819. Russell was born about 1799 in New York and died 22 Oct 1874 in Durham, Greene, New York. His household in the 1850 census of Durham, Greene, New York included Hannah, age 78, who was probably his mother.

In 1860 the name was spelled Gough and the household included Russell, Sally, Stillman who was listed as a pedlar and possibly his wife Harriet age 27 and young children Nelson W age 3 and daughter Mary E., age one, as well as 36 year-old Mary J. Goff and 11 year-old Charlotte Goff.

Sally died 16 Mar 1870 in Durham, Greene, New York. She and Russell were laid to rest at the Cornwallville Cemetery.

  5. Ostander Goff - born about 1836 in New York; married Lydia Webster who was born in 1842 and died on 22 Oct 1906 in Durham. Ostander died in Durham on 19 Jun 1907.
 
 
John Jerome (John) was born on 21 Sep 1798. He married Peggy Bullice on 17 Dec 1818 and died on 16 Jul 1846. He and Peggy were the parents of John, Rodman, and Roxanna Jerome.
 
 
Andrew Jerome (John) was born on 11 Aug 1800 in New York. He married Mary Smith on 10 Mar 1829. Mary was born in 1807 and was the daughter of Zoath and Olive (Merwin). Mary died on 28 May 1843 in Durham, Greene, NY. In 1850, Andrew and his only daughter, Eliza J. are living near his sister Margaret, wife of William f. Gould who was a M.E. clergyman.

In 1860, Andrew is living alone and is listed as a harness maker living in Durham. Andrew died in Cornwallville, New York. He and Mary were both laid to rest in Cornwallville Cemetery, Greene County, New York.

  1. Francis Asbury Jerome - appears to have died in infancy and buried in Cornwallville Cemetery.
  2. Eliza Jane Jerome - born about 1833 in New York; died 16 Jul 1857 in Durham, and was buried in Cornwallville Cemetery.
  3. Alexander Jerome - born in 1835; died in 1903 in Greene Co., New York and was buried in Cairo Cemetery, Greene, New York.
  4. David Terry Jerome - born in 1840; appears to have died in 1925 in Greene Co., New York and was buried in Cairo Cemetery, Greene, NY. He married Effie A. Tolley who was born in 1851. She died in 1931 in Greene Co., NY and was also buried in Cairo Cemetery.
 
 
Rebecca Jerome (John) was born on 24 Jan 1803 in New York. She married Fletcher Smith, son of Zoath, on 14 May 1824. Fletcher was born in 1805 and died on 21 Jan 1846 in Durham, Greene, NY. Rebecca was listed as head of household in 1850 residing in Durham. She died on 30 Jul 1885 in Durham, Greene, New York.

  1. Addison P. Smith - born 22 May 1825. He married Phebe Cargill who was born 23 May 1833. She died on 02 May 1888 in Durham, and was buried in Cornwallville Cemetery. Addison died 30 Oct 1891 in Durham.
  2. Elizabeth Smith - born about 1830 in New York; listed in her mother's household in 1850.
  3. Ansley Burdette Smith - born in 1833, hed died 07 Mar 1902 in Durham, Greene, NY.
  4. Olive Smith - born about 1836 in New York; she died on 21 Dec 1883 in Durham, Greene, NY.
  5. Henry Bascom Smith - born about 1841 in New York.
 
 
Moses Jerome (John) was born on 13 Nov 1805 in Athens, New York. He married Mary Jerome on 16 Oct 1821. Moses died on 10 Mar 1887 in Newbury, New York. He and Mary were the parents of the following children: Fred, Josephine, Watson, Wallace, Theodore, and John Jerome.
 
 
Margaret Jerome (John) was born on 04 Mar 1810 in New York. She married Rev. William F. Gould on 19 Aug 1840. William was born about 1811 in New York. He was listed as a M.E. clergyman in 1850. He died in Durham on 07 Apr 1874. Margaret died 19 Nov 1881 in Durham, and here Will was probated on 07 Feb 1882. Heirs: Maggie Morris; nephew, David T. Jerome; brothers, Chauncey Jerome and Moses; sisters, Rebecca, Amanda, Clarissa and Nancy. Executor: Oscar T. Humphrey; Witnesses: Ellsworth Strong and Caroline Smith of Durham.

Margaret is listed in the 1880 census for Durham, Greene Co., NY as head of household which includes Carrie Jerome (apparently her sister), and Maggie Morris.

Chauncey Jerome (John) was born on 10 Apr 1813. He married Delia Finch on 13 May 1849 in Windham, Greene, NY. Delia was born in 1827 in New York and died on 27 Apr 1898 in Durham, Greene, NY. Chauncey died 20 Nov 1889 in Cornwallville, New York.

In the 1850 census they were residing in the William and Calista Earl home in Durham Township, living just one or two doors down from Chauncey's sister Margaret Gould.

Amanda Jerome (John) was born on 21 Dec 1814 in New York. She married Belah Smith, son of Belah Smith and Rhoda (Merwin) on 21 Sep 1835 in Durham, Greene, NY. Bela was born about 1813 in New York and counted in a census in 1850 residing in Durham. In 1860 the household included Belah, Amanda, Mary Frances, Sidney, Adelia and Isabelle.

Belah died on 16 Sep 1881 in Durham and his Will was probated on 22 May 1882, listing the following Heirs: wife, Amanda; children, William Sidney, Mary Frances, Delia and Isabell. Executor: Calvin Borthwick Witnesses: Thomas B. Strong, and Jerome Woodard, both of Durham.

Nancy Jerome (John) was born on 12 May 1821 and married Darius Wagner on 12 Sep 1843 in Cornwallville, New York. Darius was born in 1812 and died on 05 mar 1900 at the age of 88. Nancy died on 22 Feb 1906 in East Durham, New York and they were both buried in the Cornwallville Cemetery. They were the parents of the following children: Edgar, Marvin, Caroline, Georgiana, Ida, and Clayton Wagner.

The family was enumerated in 1860 residing in East Durham. The household included Darius, Nancy, Georigana age 15, Luman age 14, Marvin age 11, Caroline age 9 and Ida age three. Also residing in their household was Sarah J. Parks of Ireland, their domestic help and Watson Olmstead who was a farm laborer.

Andrew Goff (Sally Jerome, John) was born about 1821 in New York. He married Mary E. who was born about 1825 in New York. They were enumerated in the 1850 and 1860 census residing in Durham, Greene Co., New York.

Mary Frances Smith (Amanda Jerome, John) was born on 15 Nov 1838 in New York. She married Calvin Borthwick, son of William Borthwick and Margaret Maria (Bushnell) on 08 May 1867 in Durham, Greene, NY. Calvin was born on 08 Oct 1836 in Broome, Schohaire, New York. His paternal ancestors were natives of Scotland; his maternal, of Connecticut. He was a great soldier in the Civil War, serving with the 5th New York Artillery. He was possessed of inflexible patriotism and courage, and was entrusted with many difficult and dangerous expeditions.

They were enumerated in the 1850 and 1880 census residing in Durham, Greene, Co., New York. Calvin died in Durham on 25 Oct 1904, Mary on 28 Jun 1926.
