On this twenty seventh
day of August 1832 personally appeared in open
court before the Judges of the County Court now
sitting Nathan Morse, a resident of the town of
Canadice, county and state aforesaid aged eighty
two years, who being first duly sworn according
to law doth on his oath make the following
declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the
act of Congress passed June 7, 1832.
That he entered the
service of the United States under the following
named officers and served as herein stated.
1st At the town of
Grafton, County of Worcester and State of
Massachusetts, on the day of Lexington Battle was
called out in Captain Luke Drurys Company and was
marched to Cambridge and joined Colonel Wards
Regiment and was on duty there. The day of the
Battle of Bunker Hill was marched to Charlestown,
but was not in the battle, but was under arms,
and after the Battle went back into the Fort. No.
two at Cambridge, and after this done duty at
Dorchester and was out on this campaign eight
months, and was honorably discharged. Saw General
Washington at Cambridge. Knew General Ward and
was in his Division.
2nd At Grafton as
aforesaid on or about the 1st February 1776 was
drafted to go to Dorchester again for two months,
and hired David Furbush to take his place.
3rd At Grafton as
aforesaid in September 1777 he was drafted for
three months in Captain Brighams Company, in
Colonel Cushings Regiment to go to Stillwater,
and was marched there and done duty on that
station, and was on duty when General Burgoyne
surrendered. Knew General Gates. After this was
marched to Albany and Cosesackie, then to New
Burgh and took Stoop and went to Kings Ferry then
to Scarsdale, and lay a few days, when his time
expired and was discharged and went home to
Grafton. Never had any written discharge and has
no documentary evidence and he knows of no person
whose testimony he can procure who can testify to
his service. Was born in Framingham in
Massachusetts on the 28 February 1750. At the
close of the War lived in Alstead New Hampshire
and lived there forty one years and from there
moved to his present residence in the County of
Ontario, where he has lived twelve years past. He
knows Abijah Wright and Orra Spencer of Canadice.
He hereby relinquishes
every claim whatever to a pension or annuity
except the present and declares his name is not
on the pension Roll of the agency of any State

We Abijah Wright and
Orra Spencer residing in the town of Canadice in
the County of Ontario and State of New York,
hereby certify that we are well acquainted with
Nathan Morse who has subscribed and sworn to the
above declaration. That we believe him to be
eighty two years of age. That he is reputed and
believed in the neighborhood in which he resides
to have been a soldier of the Revolution and that
we concur in that opinion.

And the said Court do
hereby declare their opinion, after the
investigation of the matter, and after putting
the interrogatories prescribed by the War
department, that the above named applicant was a
Revolutionary soldier, and served as he states.
And the Court further certifies, that it appears
to them that Abijah Wright and Orra Spencer, who
have signed the preceding certificate, are both
residents of the town of Canadice, are credible
persons, and that their statement is entitled to
credit, and that the said Abijah Wright is a
Clergyman.

of the said Court, do hereby certify that the
foregoing contains the original proceedings of
the said Court in the matter of the application
of Nathan Morse for a pension.
In testimony whereof, I
have hereunto set my hand and Seal of office,
this first day of September A.D. 1832.

I hereby certify, That,
from an examination of the Books and Documents
relating to Military Services in the War of the
Revolution, which remain in this Department, it
appears that the name of Nathan Morse is borne on
the pay roll of Capt. Aaron Kimbal's Comp. Col.
Artemus Ward's Regt. on alarm of April 19 1775
from Grafton, as Corporal for two weeks.
Also on roll of Capt.
Luke Drury's Comp., Col. Jonathan Ward's Regt. of
eight mos. service name borne on roll dated
Watertown Nov. 3. 1775 from Grafton as Sergeant.
Also on pay roll of
Capt. Joseph Warner's Comp. commanded by Lieut.
Col. Wheelock who marched to Bennington on alarm
Aug 21. 1777 five days as Sergeant.
Also on pay roll of
Capt. Edward Brigham's Comp. Col. Job Cushings
Regt. from Sept. 12th to Nov 2. 1777 two mos. 28
days as Sergeant from Grafton.
And I further Certify,
That, before search made for evidence of said
facts, the application hereto annexed was filed
in this Office in the form in which the same now
appears; that the search was made by myself and
my clerks alone; and that said application, and
the certificate above set forth, contain all the
facts and circumstances within my knowledge,
pertaining to the case.

spoke came from Newton, Mass.

information as you can, you will greatly oblige -
