Helen Jerusha Blakely
(Sarah Peters, Richard, Richard) was born on 02
Sep 1849 in Kortright, Delaware Co., NY. She

1833 in Kortright, Delaware Co., NY and died on
14 Apr 1919 in Five Corners. Helen died on 16 Jun
1934 in Five Corners, Cayuga, and both were

Prior
to her marriage, Helen was listed in the 1850 and 1860 census records residing in
Delaware Co., New York. According to the Town
History of Kortright written by W. B. Peters for
the Centennial History of Delaware County, New
York, "William Rowland, accompanied by his
son Ebenezer, moved to Kortright and settled on a
farm at the foot of Kenyon Hill about 1800.
Ebenezer Rowland became one of the wealthiest men
of his day residing in the town. He was father of
William Rowland Esq., James Rowland, Ebenezer
Rowland and George Rowland, all of whom became
substantial and wealthy citizens of the town and
is well known.
The
home of Ebenezer Rowland who married a daughter
of Robert McIlwain, Esq., and resides in the
extreme western part of the town, is one fit for
a prince. In fact the visitor to our town of
Kortright who fails to take in that region
occupied by the residences of William McClintock,
James Rowland, John Moredock, Merritt S. and
Joseph Roberts, William H. Brownell, William
Blakely and James Kelso, will miss a locality
which on account of fine farm houses, barns and
outbuildings and neat, productive, well fenced
and well kept farms is difficult to exceed."

listed as three months of age during that census.
Charles
married (2) Nellie Fulton who was born in Preble,

Sarah E. Tallman
(Jerusha Peters, Richard, Richard) was born on 16
Mar 1841 in Cortland, Preble, NY. Listed as 39
years old in the 1880 census residing in Preble,
Sarah had married David O. Crofoot [PHOTO] on 08 Oct 1867 in Preble, Cortland,
NY. David was born on 08 Oct 1833 in Preble,
Cortland, NY. He died on 11 Jul 1914 in Preble
and was buried in Elmwood Cemetery as was Sarah
who died on 08 Feb 1895 and was buried in on 11
Feb 1895.
The
History of the town of Preble gives information
of the Crofoot family, stating that "James
Crofoot was one of the prominent early settlers
and probably emigrated from Connecticut about the
year 1806, arriving in Preble during the latter
part of that year. He settled on lot 88 and was
one of the very first to locate in Baltimore.
Joseph Crofoot was postmaster of that hamlet for
a number of years. His son, David Crofoot, was a
tanner and currier and became wealthy. He was a
skillful mechanic and carried on that business at
Baltimore for forty years. The old stone
building, still standing in that place and
occupied for that especial purpose during the
time Mr. Crofoot was engaged in that pursuit, was
afterward used for various purposes, such as
blacksmith shop, shoe shop, etc., but has been
virtually abandoned for many years. This building
was erected about the year 1810, and was the
first tannery in the town. David Crofoot must
have turned his attention in part of politics;
the records of the town show him to have been
supervisor in 1823, '24, '25, '30, '32, '33, '34,
'39, '40, '43, '44, '45, '46, '52, and '53 --
fifteen years in all, but extending over a period
of thirty years of time.
