Poland Garden Club

Seeing the need of a closer fellowship between flower lovers and grower, Mr. and Mrs. Linwood Long called a meeting of all interested persons on April 5, 1966 at the Sunday School rooms to get together and form a garden club.

The purpose of it shall be to improve the beauty of our community and gain more knowledge about the native flower and trees so we may intelligently sponsor and encourage conservation of our natural plant life resources.

Officers were elected for the following year:

Sec-Treas- Dorothy Coffin

Since this meeting several shade tree have been replaced which had to be removed as diseased. Window boxes have been installed with flowers in front of the parsonage as well as evergreens planted around the outdoor bulletin board and flower gardens in front of the church.

Interesting programs are held with illustration talks on several subjects. Also a plant auction the first Wednesday in June at 7:30 PM is held and is open to the public. At least one outdoor meeting is held each year at some member's home and friendly evening is enjoyed and the gardens are inspected. One banquet each year in August is held and a flower show is sponsored that the Alvan Ricker Memorial Library on the Saturday nearest the middle of August. At the November meeting a demonstration of ways to make Christmas decorations is presented. The meetings are open to everyone and all members make all welcome.
