12.  John C.4 SUTTON (628) (John, #24); born July 20, 1838 in Newbern, Pulaski Co., VA; married Elizabeth J. Gunn (629) (see #13), daughter of John C. Gunn (642) and Elizabeth Owens (643), September 26, 1860 in Pulaski Co., VA; died April 27, 1893 in Pulaski Co., VA, at age 54, and was buried in the Newbern Community Cemetery, Pulaski Co., VA.

     John Sutton lived in 1860 in Pulaski Co., VA. He was listed as a farmer in 1860 and 1870 in Pulaski Co., VA. He began military service before April 24, 1864 in prob. Newbern, Pulaski Co., VA.  A Civil War veteran,  John enlisted in the 50th VA INF, Co. I

     Sutton, John C.: Sgt., Co. I.  In the1860 census John Sutton was living, age 21, in Pulaski Co., VA.  He enlisted by April 24, 1864 when he deserted to the enemy (2 US Corps).  John took the oath in Washington, D.C. on April 27, 1864 and was furnished transportation to Philadelphia, PA.

     Children of John C.4 Sutton (628) and Elizabeth J. Gunn (629) (see #13) all born in Newbern, Pulaski Co., VA, were as follows:

                      i.    Samuel G.3 (630); born 1861; married Virginia A. (--?--) (4416) between 1888 and 1898; died 1948 in Pulaski Co., VA and was buried in the Newbern Community Cemetery, Pulaski Co., VA.

           6.        ii.    William Kirby (624).

                     iii.    Walter E. (631); born April 24, 1867; died February 7, 1885 in Pulaski Co., VA, at age 17, and was buried in the Newbern Community Cemetery, Pulaski Co., VA.

13.  Elizabeth J.4 GUNN (629) (John, #26); born January 28, 1842; married John C. Sutton (628) (see #12), son of John C. Sutton (632) and Elizabeth C. ? (633), September 26, 1860 in Pulaski Co., VA; died June 5, 1911 at age 69.

14.  William M.4 KING (644) (Joseph, #28); born May 22, 1839 in Pulaski Co., VA; married Eva C. Shufflebarger (645) (see #15), daughter of Elias Shufflebarger Jr. (661) and Nancy Carper (662), circa 1865; died in 1915 in Belsprings, and was buried in Thornsprings Cemetery, Pulaski Co., VA.

     He began military service on June 25, 1861.  A Civil War veteran, “Billy” enlisted in the 50th VA INF in Newbern, VA as 4th Sargeant in Co. I.  Billy King was born in Pulaski Co., VA.  In 1860, he was a farm laborer, age 21, in Pulaski Co., VA.  He enlisted on June 25, 1861 in Newbern, Pulaski Co., VA.

     He was wounded in action in the left arm at the battle of Fisher's Hill on Sep. 22, 1864 "where (he was) nobly performing his duties as officer and soldier."  His arm was amputated close to the shoulder blade.  William King was 5' 7" with a fair complexion, brown hair and gray eyes in 1864.  He was absent from his unit on Jan. 14, 1865.

     William King was living in Pulaski Co., VA, age 48 on Apr. 28, 1888 and was still in Pulaski County on Aug. 12, 1907.

     He was a constable for the county.  Later he was the tax collector for at least 7 years in Pulaski Co., VA. He lived between 1888 and 1907 in Pulaski Co., VA.

     Children of William M.4 King (644) and Eva C. Shufflebarger (645) (see #15) all born in Pulaski Co., VA, were as follows:

           7.        i.    Sarah Jane3 (625).

                      ii.    Elizabeth C. (646); born August 24, 1867; married David Smith (647).

                     iii.    (Not Named) (4417); born March 28, 1869; died March 28, 1869 in Pulaski Co., VA.

15.  Eva C.4 SHUFFLEBARGER (645) (Elias, #30); born 1843 in Pulaski Co., VA; married William M. King (644) (see #14), son of Joseph King (648) and Elizabeth Mullin (649), circa 1865; died 1915 in the family home on Peak Creek in Newbern, Pulaski Co., VA and was buried in Thornsprings Cemetery.
