Parents of William King

28.  Joseph5 KING (648) (William, #56); born 1815 in Pulaski Co., VA; married Elizabeth Mullin (649) (see #29), daughter of William Mullin (659) and Elizabeth Dillow (660), July 17, 1838 in Montgomery County, VA; died after 1880.

     Children of Joseph5 King (648) and Elizabeth Mullin (649) (see #29) were as follows:

         14.        i.    William M.4 (644).

                      ii.    Chester B. (650); born 1840 in Pulaski Co., VA; died after January 21, 1911 in Pulaski Co., VA.

      In 1850 and 1860 he lived in Dublin Depot, Pulaski Co., VA. He began military service on September 9, 1861.  A Civil War veteran, Chester enlisted in the 54th VA INF, Co. F in Newbern, Pulaski Co., VA. 

     Chester King enlisted Sep. 9, 1861 in Newbern. He was absent, sick in hospital on Jan. 1, 1862, then no further record in CSR. He served 3½ years per Post War Record.

     The 50th VA INF has a receipt roll for Chester B. King in Co. I. listed with record for C. B. King, Co. H. This Chester was captured at Spottsylvania C.H. on May 12, 1864 then taken to Elmira, NY on July 30, 1864. He was released on June 16, 1865. His oath of allegiance shows residence in Dublin Depot, VA, a fair complexion, grey eyes, 5'5. The 54th Chester B. King was a resident of Pulaski Co., age 9, on the 1850 Census and age 19 on the 1860 Pulaski County Census.

        Private.  Co. I.  Born Pulaski Co.  1860: laborer, age 19, Pulaski Co.  Enlisted by 5/12/1864 when captured at Spotsylvania Court-House.  Prisoner of war at Point Lookout 5/18/1864 to 7/30/1864.  POW at Elmira from 8/2/1864 to 6/16/1865 when released on oath.  68" (5'8"), fair complexion, light hair, gray eyes in 1865.  Living, age 70, Pulaski Co. on 1/21/1911. 

        From census records it appears the two Chester B. Kings are the same individual, the son of Joseph King and brother to William, James and Jonathan King.

                     iii.    Susan J. (651); born 1841 in Pulaski Co., VA.

                     iv.    James T. (652); born 1843 in Pulaski Co., VA.

     He was a farm laborer in 1860. He lived between 1860 and 1888 in Pulaski Co., VA. He began military service on June 25, 1861.  A Civil War veteran, James enlisted in the 50th VA INF as Private, Co. I.  at Wytheville, Wythe Co. 

     Hospital, left sick Newbern, July 29, 1861. 

     Hospital, sick, Lewisburg Sep. 15, 1861 through Oct. 30, 1861.

     James was wounded in action in his right leg below the knee by a shell fragment "in the charge on the Gettysburg heights," on July 2, 1863.  "Typhoid fever resulted causing flesh to drop off from bone." 

     James was captured at Spotsylvania C. H. on May 12, 1864.  He was a prisoner of war at Pt. Lookout from May 18, 1864 until July 30, 1864.  Then he was a prisoner of war at Elmira from Aug. 2, 1864 until June 27, 1865 when released on oath. He was 5' 8", dark complexion, dark hair, dark eyes in 1865.

     In 1860 James was a farm laborer, age 19, in Pulaski Co., VA  He was living, age 45, in Pulaski Co. on Apr. 2, 1888.

                     v.    Jonathon R. (653); born 1844 in Dublin, Pulaski Co., VA; married Lucinda R. Williams (4418) October 17, 1866 in Pulaski Co., VA; married Ellen E. Robinson (4419) February 10, 1892; died January 28, 1924 in Pulaski Co., VA.

     He lived between 1860 and 1907 in Pulaski Co., VA. He began military service in 1862.  A Civil War Veteran, Jonathon enlisted in Dublin, Pulaski Co., VA in the 50th VA INF, Co. I

     Jonathon served nearly three years.  He was hospitalized for a long time during the war with rheumatism and heart palpitations according to his pension application.

     In 1860 Jonathon was living, age 15, in Pulaski Co., VA.  He was living in Pulaski Co., VA, age 58, on Sep. 25, 1902 and was still in Pulaski Co. on Aug. 12, 1907. 

     He was a farmer in 1866 and 1868.

29.  Elizabeth5 MULLIN (649) (William, #58); born 1810 in Pulaski Co., VA; married Joseph King (648) (see #28), son of William King (4296) and Elizabeth ? (4297), July 17, 1838 in Montgomery County, VA; died after 1880.

30.  Elias5 SHUFFLEBARGER Jr. (661) (Elias, #60); born 1801 in Montgomery County, VA; married Nancy Carper (662) (see #31), daughter of John Carper Sr. (725) and Eve ? (726), December 4, 1824 in Montgomery County, VA; died after 1870.

     He lived between 1830 and 1870 in Newbern, Pulaski, VA. He was listed as a farmer in 1850 in Pulaski, VA.

     Children of Elias5 Shufflebarger Jr. (661) and Nancy Carper (662) (see #31) were as follows:

                      i.    John4 (663); born 1825; died before 1912.

     He lived in 1850 in Pulaski, VA. He began military service on July 20, 1861 in Wytheville, VA. A Civil War Veteran he enlisted in the 51st VA INF, Co. C.

JOHN SHUFFLEBARGER-Son of Elias Shufflebarger, Jr.

Co. C. Enlisted 7/20/61 in Wytheville as Private. Died before 1912.

                     iii.    Cynthia (665); born 1830; married Robert Dudley (4410) February 6, 1851 in Pulaski, VA.

                     iv.    Armenta (666); born 1832 in Pulaski, VA; married William S. Mathews (4585) February 4, 1859 in Pulaski Co., VA.

                     v.    Nancy E. (667); born 1834.

                     vi.    James T. (668); born 1836 in Pulaski, VA; died September 23, 1862 in Pulaski, VA.

     He was a carpenter in 1861. He began military service on April 17, 1861.  A Civil War Soldier, he enlisted 4/17/61 in the 4th VA INF, Co. C, the Stonewall Brigade.  Age 25, carpenter.

                     ix.    William C. J. (671); born 1841 in VA.

     He lived in 1861 in Pulaski, VA. He began military service on June 23, 1861 in Wytheville, Wythe, VA. A Civil War Soldier, he enlisted in the 50th VA INF, Co. I, for 12 months as a Private.

     Company Muster Roll:  June 23 to October 30, 1861-absent; sick at home in Pulaski County, VA

     Regimental Return:  July 1861-taken sick on march from Wytheville to Sweet Springs.

     Register of sick and wounded Confederates in the hospitals in and about Gettysburg, PA after the battle of July 1-3, 1863-Gunshot to groin.

     Roll of Prisoners of War-Captured at Gettysburg and listed as died July 17, 1863 but later found on POW lists.

     List of Rebel sick and wounded received at DeCamp General Hospital, David's Island, New York Harbor-July 17, 19, 22, 23, 24/1863

     Roll of Prisoners of War-Captured July 5, 1863 at Gettysburg.

     Received for exchange, City Point on Sep. 8, 1863.
