John Shell Will of 1808
Jno Shell. His Will.
I
John Shell Senr of the county of Montgomery and state of Virginina do make this
my last Will and Testament in manner and form following. Viz.
I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Margaret one third part of the
plantation or Tract of Land whereon I live to be her absolute property and at
her disposal. Also one sorrel Mare and
Six cows, her choice, of my stock four Sows and pigs, the stock of sheep,
Spinning wheels, house hold and kitchen furniture. I give and bequeath to my three sons, John, Christian, and James
the remaining two thirds of my plantation, my waggon and Frame of horses and
two stills and all my farming and plantation utensils and the remainder of my
stock of hogs. My son John did reside
in the State of Ohio. The devise to him
is upon the ----- condition that he return to the lands will'd him, reside with
his two brothers Christian and James and assist to raise my infant Children,
otherwise the divise to the three shall go to Christian and James alone. My four sons William, Havin, Henry and
Isaac, I will and direct that they each be bound to some Mechanical trade and
the trade of each to be appointed and the act confirmed by my Executors. I direct that my Sons to whom I have Will'd
two thirds of my lands shall give to my younger Sons William, Havin, Henry and
Isaac when they arrive of age each a good horse and Saddle. I will and direct that the remainder of my
Stock of Cattle shall be divided by my wife as she thinks proper, among my
children. My son Christian shall have a
sorrel two year old horse colt. My
daughter Caty a sorrel yearling filley and Son James the grey mare. I do hereby constitute and appoint Daniel
Howe and Gordon Cloyd Executors of this my last Will hoping they will enter
into the administration thereof.

testament of John Shell deceased was presented in Court and proved by the oaths
of John Beanard and Joseph Cloyd the witnesses thereto and ordered to be
Recorded.
