Joshua Hanks Will of 1854

 

Joshua Hanks Last will and Testament. 

I Joshua Hanks of Carroll County Va do make this and no other to be my Last will and Testatment revoking all former wills, or codicils by me in any wise make rectifying and confirming this and no other.  First I give unto my son William Hanks, one Dollar and no more for believing as I do that I have already givin to his two sons Franklin and Sylvanus as much as I had to give to my other legatees.  Secondly I give to my four Grandsons namely Martin, Creed, Friel & Orval, all my four hundred and 30 acre tract of land lying in the county of Carroll and state of Virginia that has not been already disposed of to be equally divided between them and their Heirs forever.  Thirdly I give to my daughters herein after named all the rest of my Estate both Real and personal of every description whatsoever, namely, Mary Cooley, Nancy Moore, Lydia Moore, Rhoda Moore, Patience Davis, Thursey Mallory, Ruth Vaughan, Susan Mooney, to them and their heirs forever to be Equally Divided.  And Lastly I do constitute and appoint my friend James D. Cooley my Executor of this my last will and Testament.  Signed Sealed and acknowledged in the presints of us

This Last will and Testatment of Joshua Hanks Dec'd was proven in open court by the oaths of James C. Davis & William Hanks subscribing witnesses thereto and was ordered to be Recorded.
