John Duncan’s and Elizabeth Holtzclaw’s

 German Ancestry

Most information on these families comes from B. C. Holtzclaw’s Ancestry and Descendents of the Nassau-Siegen Immigrants to Virginia, 1714-1750.  One can not say too much about this book and Mr. Holtzclaw’s research.

In 1714 a colony of German emigrants was established in Germanna, Virginia.  What distinguished this group was their common point of origin in the Nassau-Siegen area of Germany.  Over the next 35 years, more emigrants from this region of Germany came to Germanna, Virginia.

Mr. Holtzclaw has traced the ancestry of 22 of the Nassau-Siegen families back many generations.  He has traveled to Germany and been in contact with the German relatives of  these colonists.  Among their sources are the parish and guild records.

This book and others have been published by The Memorial Foundation of the Germanna Colonies.  You may visit their website, http://www.germanna.org/ , for a history of the colony and a list of their publications.
