     Susannah HELTON (2252) was born circa 1789.[3] She died circa 1838 in Floyd Co., VA.[4]

     Children of Mark Howell (154) and Susannah Helton (2252) all born in Floyd Co., VA, were as follows:

         24.        i.    Rozena (2253); born 1833;[5] married Beaufort Abel (5509) June 5, 1851 in Floyd Co., VA.[6]

         25.        ii.    James (2254); born 1834.[7]

9.  David N. HOWELL (152); born 1791 in Floyd Co., VA;[9],[10] married Nancy Carter (2156) 1820 in Montgomery Co., VA.[11]

 

     Nancy CARTER (2156) was born in 1797 in Floyd Co., VA.[12]

     Children of David N. Howell (152) and Nancy Carter (2156) were as follows:

         28.        ii.    Hyram (2250); born 1830 in Floyd Co., VA.[13]

         29.      iii.    Harriet (2244); born 1832 in Floyd Co., VA;[14] married John Harter (5507) March 20, 1852 in Floyd Co., VA.[15]

         30.      iv.    Isaac (2251); born 1833 in Floyd Co., VA.[16]

         31.       v.    Samantha (2242); born 1834 in Floyd Co., VA;[17] married Woolford Scott (5511) December 11, 1851.[18]

         32.       vi.    Joseph (2243); born 1836 in Floyd Co., VA.[19],[20]

     He began military service on May 16, 1861 at Floyd Court-House, Floyd Co., VA.  A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in the 24th VA INF, Co. A.  His service record follows.

Howell, Joseph

     25; farmer. enlisted Co. A. 5/16/1861 at Floyd C. H.; Absent sick summer 1861-2/21/1862 with typhoid fever.

     Wounded at Second Manassas; detailed for light duty with home guard at Floyd.  Admitted Chimborazo 3/13/1865 with rheumatism, transferred 3/16/1865.[21]

        33.      vii.     Asa (2249); born 1839 in Floyd Co., VA;[22] died August 13, 1861 in Manassas, VA.          

                 Cause of death was fever.  Age given as 25.[23],[24]

10.  John HOWELL (153); born 1802 in Floyd Co., VA;[26] married Sarah Rakes (2261), daughter of Henry Rakes (2262), March 2, 1823 in Montgomery Co., VA.[27]

     He was a constable in 1850 and a miller in 1860 in Floyd Co., VA.[28],[29]

 

     Sarah RAKES (2261)[30] was born in 1800 in Buckingham, VA.

     Children of John Howell (153) and Sarah Rakes (2261) were as follows:

         34.        i.    Eliza (4765); born 1828;[31] married ? Hylton (4766) circa 1850;[32] died January 6, 1855. Cause of death was fever.[33]

         35.        ii.    Henry (2263); born 1831 in Floyd Co., VA.[34]

         36.      iii.    Meredith (2264);[35] born 1834 in Floyd Co., VA;[36] died December 22, 1853 in Floyd Co., VA. Cause of death was typhoid fever.  Sex given as M and age as 20.[37]

         37.       iv.    John W. (2265); born 1836 in Floyd Co., VA.[38]

         38.       v.    William (2266); born 1838 in Floyd Co., VA;[39] died October 16, 1855 in Floyd Co., VA. Cause of death was fever (Name given as Wilson and age as 18).[40]

 

16.  David A. HOWELL (119); born January 5, 1801 in Floyd County, VA;[41] married Charlotte Pratt (2284), daughter of James Pratt (2282) and Obediance Hylton (2283), August 6, 1822 in Montgomery Co., VA;[42] died January 18, 1887 in Floyd County, VA, at age 86. Cause of death was "old age."  Burial in Duncan Cemetery, Willis, Floyd Co., VA.[43],[44]

     He was a farmer in 1850 in Floyd Co., VA.[45]

 

     Charlotte PRATT (2284) was born on January 25, 1803 in Floyd County, VA.[46] She died on June 7, 1874 in Floyd County, VA, at age 71.[47],[48]

     He was a farmer in 1850 in Floyd Co., VA.[58]

 

     Catherine RUSSELL (144) was born in 1808 in Patrick Co., VA.[59]

     Children of James Howell (143) and Catherine Russell (144) were as follows:

     He was the Sheriff in Floyd Co., VA.[62] He was a Tavern Keeper in 1850 in Floyd Co., VA.[63]

 

     Adeline ? (2214) was born in 1823 in Franklin Co., VA.[64]

     Children of Pleasant Howell (157) and Adeline ? (2214) all born in Floyd Co., VA, were as follows:

         49.        i.    Henneryzetta (2246); born 1846.[65]

         50.        ii.    Fredissa (2247); born 1848;[66] died December 12, 1858 in Floyd Co., VA. Age at death given as 11.[67]
