8.  James BURKE (449); born 1698 in Ulster, North Ireland;[1] married Lucretia Griffith (451) before 1730; married Mary Jane Bane (450), daughter of Mordecai Bane (480) and Naomi Medley (482), July 11, 1730 in Goshen Meeting House, Chester Co., PA;[2] died February, 1783 in Surry Co., NC.[3]

     James Burke was an explorer, hunter and trader. He was a Quaker. He immigrated from Ireland to America between 1720 and 1725 and lived in 1730 in Chester Co., PA.

 

     Lucretia GRIFFITH (451). She was born circa 1700.

     There were no children of James Burke (449) and Lucretia Griffith (451).

 

     Mary Jane "Polly" BANE (450) was a Quaker. She was born in 1710 in Goshen Quaker Stmt., Chester Co., PA.[4] She died in 1748 and was buried in Draper's Meadow, Augusta Co., VA.[5]

     Children of James Burke (449) and Mary Jane Bane (450) were as follows:

            10.          i.       Mary (452);[6],[7] born 1732 in Fincastle, VA;[8] married Joseph Morphew (453) October 9, 1749 in Montgomery County, VA;[9] died 1783 in Surry Co., NC.[10]

            11.         ii.        Sarah (454);[11] born 1734 in Fincastle, VA;[12] married Capt. Samuel Wilson (455) 1753 in Bedford Co., VA.[13],[14]

            12.       iii.        James Edward (456);[15],[16] born 1735 in Fincastle, VA;[17] married Amey ? (457) circa 1752 in Surry Co., VA;[18] died August, 1776.[19]

            13.         iv.       Benjamin (458);[20],[21] born 1736 in Fincastle, VA;[22] married Mary Eliot (459); died in Shallow Ford.[23]

            14.          v.      Sally (460);[24],[25] born circa 1739;[26] married ? Coleman (461)

            15.         vi.       ? (462);[27],[28] born circa 1742; married William Brookshire (463);

+          16.       vii.       Joseph (436), born 1745 in Montgomery Co., VA; married Margaret Grant (437).

            17.       viii.       Naomi (464); born February 1, 1746 in Fincastle, VA;[29] married Samuel Pepper (465) March 13, 1764 in Goose Creek, Bedford Co., VA;[30],[31] died in 1824 and is “probably buried beside her husband in the Pepper Cemetery, where a stone is now illegible."[32]

     She is listed as the owner of 60 acres on July 15, 1802 in Montgomery Co., VA land records.[33]
