Generation Three

3.  James3 ROSEBERRY (William2, Jesse1) born 1799 in NC;[1] married Elizabeth (--?--) 1817; died circa 1865.  Beginning with James Roseberry this branch of the family can be traced in Census and County Records from Rockingham Co., NC to Carroll Co., VA.

He lived between 1850 and 1860 in Rockingham Co., NC; Carroll Co., VA. He was a farmer between 1850 and 1860. [2]

Elizabeth (--?--) was born in 1805. She died on March 26, 1859 in Carroll Co., VA. [3]

Children of James3 Roseberry and Elizabeth (--?--) were as follows:

+            5.          i.     Calvin4 Roseberry, born 1818 in NC; married Mary ?

              6.          ii.     Mary Roseberry; born 1820 in NC.[4]

+            7.        iii.     Samuel Roseberry, born 1820 in NC; married Agnes Jane Manly.

              8.         iv.     John Roseberry; born 1849 in Carroll Co., VA.

              9.         v.     Elizabeth Roseberry; born 1853 in Carroll Co., VA.

            10.         vi.     Polly J. Roseberry; born 1855 in Carroll Co., VA.

            11.       vii.     James Roseberry Jr.; born 1857 in Carroll Co., VA.

            12.       viii.     Isaac Roseberry; born 1859 in Carroll Co., VA.[5]

            13.         ix.     William Roseberry; born 1860 in Carroll Co., VA.

4.  William3 ROSEBERRY (William2, Jesse1) born 1801 in NC; married Margaret Sartin circa 1824.  In the World Family Tree lineage, Jesse Roseberry (abt. 1750) is listed as the father of William Roseberry (husband of Margaret Sartin) and this William is listed as the father of Jesse Roseberry (husband of Lucinda Auxier) and Samuel Roseberry (husband of Agnes Manly).  I believe a generation has been skipped and that William Roseberry (abt. 1775) is the father of this William Roseberry (husband of Margaret Sartin) and Samuel Roseberry (husband of Agnes Manly),

     These two William Roseberrys are confused in the family lore and the World Family Tree.  This is why the first two generations listed in the Roseberry family tree are conjecture until evidence from North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia or Kentucky can establish the exact relations.  Beginning with this William Roseberry, the Jesse Roseberry (husband of Lucinda Auxier) branch appears correct with the possible mistake of Samuel Roseberry (husband of Agnes Manly) mentioned above;

In 1850 William could not read or write. He lived in 1850 in Russell Co., VA. [6]

Margaret SARTIN was born circa 1805.

Children of William3 Roseberry and Margaret Sartin were as follows:

+          14.          i.     Jesse4 Roseberry, born 1825 in NC; married Lucinda Auxier.

            15.          ii.     Sarah Roseberry; born 1831.

            16.        iii.     Nancy Roseberry; born 1834.

            17.         iv.     Margaret Roseberry; born 1836.

            18.         v.     Thursey Roseberry; born 1838.

            19.         vi.     Eliza Roseberry; born 1840 in Carroll Co., VA.[7]

            20.       vii.     William Roseberry; born 1842 in Carroll Co., VA; married Phebe Lewis January 25, 1868.

            21.       viii.     Mary Roseberry; born 1846 in Washington Co., VA; married John Smith October 9, 1872.
