20.  Lorenzo Dow4 HOWELL (Isaac3, David2, Joshua1); born 1826 in Floyd Co., VA; [1] married Mary McDaniel February 16, 1849 in Montgomery Co., VA;[2] died August 21, 1864 in Point Lookout POW Prison, Md.[3]

     He was listed as a carpenter in 1853 and 1860 in Pulaski Co., VA.[4],[5]

     A Civil War soldier, Lorenzo began military service on March 13, 1862 when he enlisted in the 4th VA INF, Co. C.  He was captured in the battle of the Wilderness in VA on May 5, 1864 and died Aug. 21, 1864, at Point Lookout Prison, Md.[6]

 

     Mary MCDANIEL was born in 1826 in Pulaski Co., VA. [7]

     Children of Lorenzo Dow4 Howell and Mary McDaniel were as follows:

            49.          i.     Melinda5; born 1850 in Floyd Co., VA. [8]

            50.          ii.     Victoria; born June 17, 1853 in Montgomery Co., VA. [9]

            51.        iii.     William J.; born October 21, 1860 in Pulaski Co., VA. [10]

 

 

25.  Eliza Melvina4 HOWELL (Alexander3, David2, Joshua1); born 1833;[11] married Caleb Howell, son of David N. Howell and Nancy Carter, March 11, 1858 in Floyd Co., VA;[12] died 1912.[13]

 

     Caleb HOWELL was born in 1829.[14] He lived in 1855 in Carroll Co., VA.[15] A Civil War veteran, Caleb began military service when he enlisted in Co. H of the 51st VA INF, circa 1861 in Carroll Co., VA.[16] He died in 1894.[17]

     Children of Eliza Melvina4 Howell and Caleb Howell were:

            52.          i.     Emma S.5;[18] born 1859 in VA.

 

 

28.  Col. Peradine Tillman4 HOWELL (Alexander3, David2, Joshua1); born May 18, 1839 in Floyd Co., VA;[19] married Adaline Carter circa 1865; died August 19, 1919 in Floyd Co., VA, at age 80 and was buried in the Howell Cemetery on the Frances Harmon Land, Floyd Co. , VA.[20]

     He was also known as Col. Tip Howell.

     A Civil War veteran, Peradine began military service when he enlisted as a Sergeant in Co. B of the 54th VA INF on September 16, 1861 in Floyd C. H., VA. 

     He began as a 3rd Sgt., was promoted to 1st Sgt. and later to 3rd Lt. of Co. B.

     Present on the Feb. 28, 1862 muster but absent, on reenlistment furlough on the May 1, 1862 muster roll where he was listed as 3rd Sgt.  On the Dec. 31, 1862 muster roll Peradine was present and listed as 1st Sgt.  He was elected 3rd Lt. on Feb. 9, 1863.  He was present on both the Dec. 31, 1863 and Feb. 28, 1865 musters.

     Nicknamed "Col. Tip," his military records show his as a resident of Floyd Co. and the postwar Treasurer of Floyd Co., Justice of the Peace and Mayor of Floyd Co. C. H.  They also list his birth as May 18, 1839  and his death as Aug. 19, 1919, buried in the Howell Cemetery on the Frances Harmon Land, Floyd Co.[21]

 

     Adaline CARTER[22] was born circa 1840.

     Children of Col. Peradine Tillman4 Howell and Adaline Carter were as follows:

            53.          i.     George Forrest5; born circa 1870; died by suicide on March, 1895 in Floyd Co., VA.[23]

            54.          ii.     India;[24] born circa 1870.

            57.         v.     Julia;[27] born circa 1870.

            58.         vi.     Timandra;[28] born circa 1870.
