31.  Reazon V. GODBY (880);[1],[2] born June, 1822 in Montgomery Co., VA;[3] married Julia Ann Whitt (881), daughter of Hezekiah Whitt (943) and Sarah Howerton (951), June 2, 1847 in Montgomery Co., VA;[4],[5] married Catherine E. ? (4581) circa 1855 in Pulaski Co., VA.[6]

     He was a farmer with $400 in real estate in 1850 in Pulaski Co., VA.[7]

     Julia Ann WHITT (881)[8], [9] was born in 1821 in Montgomery Co., VA.[10],[11] She died on July 30, 1853 in Pulaski Co., VA. The cause of death was unknown, Julia died 12 days after birth of an unnamed child.  This child died two days earlier on July 28.[12]

     Children of Reazon V. Godby (880) and Julia Ann Whitt (881) were as follows:

         76.        i.    Hezekiah F. (984); born 1848 in VA.[13]

         77.        ii.    Rhoda (985); born 1849 in VA.[14]

         78.      iii.    Sarah Emaline (1021); born January 24, 1852.[15]

     She was also known as Sarah "Sally" GODBY.

         79.       iv.    (Not Named) (4582); born July 18, 1853 in Pulaski Co., VA; died July 28, 1853 in Pulaski Co., VA. Cause of death was unknown.  Her mother, Julia Ann, died two days later.[16]

 

     Catherine E. ? (4581) was born circa 1825.[17]

     There were no children of Reazon V. Godby (880) and Catherine E. ? (4581).

 

 

33.  Amanda M. GODBY (615); born 1829 in Pulaski Co., VA;[18] married James Rankin (614) February 12, 1850 in Pulaski Co., VA;[19] died circa 1853 in Pulaski Co., VA.[20],[21]

     James RANKIN (614) was born in 1824 in Pulaski Co., VA.[22] He was a laborer in 1850 living in the 48th District, Pulaski Co., VA.[23] He married (--?--) Hannah (616) circa 1855. He began military service on September 10, 1863 in Pulaski Co., VA.  A Civil War veteran, Rankin enlisted in the 4th VA INF, Co. C-"The Pulaski Guards."[24] He ended military service after September, 1864.[25],[26] He died after 1870.[27]

     Children of Amanda M. Godby (615) and James Rankin (614) were:

+       80.        i.    Mary Jane (590), born after February 12, 1850 in Pulaski Co., VA; married Thomas Baker King (589).  For more on this family see the King section.

 

37.  Jackson GODBY (4284); born 1816 in VA;[28],[29] married Ellen ? (4289) circa 1844; died 1884 in Floyd County, VA and was buried in Jacksonville Cemetery, Floyd Co., VA.[30]

     Godby was County Surveyor in 1860 in Floyd Co., VA.[31] He was Clerk of the Circuit and County Court before 1861 in Floyd Co., VA.[32] He began his military service on September 16, 1861 in Floyd Court House, Floyd Co., VA.  A Civil War Veteran, he enlisted in the 54th VA INF, Co. B. (from Floyd Co.) as a Captain and was present on Jan. 1, 1862 and Feb. 28, 1862 musters.

       The May 1, 1862 muster shows Godby on detached service. He was dropped on May 13, 1862. He later enlisted as a private in Co. H, 4th VA Reserves but was exempted by the medical board.

     Resident of Floyd C.H., Floyd Co. and a postwar member of the Methodist Episcopal Church-South, Jackson's occupation was farmer and active promoter of the Jacksonville Brick Academy in Floyd C.H. Born 1816. Died 1884 and buried in the Jacksonville Cemetery, Floyd Co. Exemption was as Clerk of the Circuit and County Court.[33] He ended military service on May 13, 1862.[34]

     Ellen ? (4289)[35] was born in 1825 in VA.[36]

     Children of Jackson Godby (4284) and Ellen ? (4289) all born in VA were as follows:

         81.        i.    Nannie P. (4290); born 1845.[37]

         82.        ii.    Alicia (4291); born 1847.[38]

         83.      iii.    Julia A. (4292); born 1850.[39]

         84.       iv.    Josephine (4293); born 1852.[40]
