Carroll Co., VA[1] and married (--?--) circa 1805.[2] William
married Dicey Tucker 1810 in Surry Co., NC[3] and then married Nancy Carrico, daughter of Abel
Carrico and Elizabeth Sims, on January 2, 1820.[4] Finally he married Elizabeth Cain in 1863.[5] William
died of “old age” on December 24, 1868 in Carroll Co., VA at age 87 years and 7
months.[6],[7]
He was
a farmer in 1860 in Carroll Co., VA.[8]

born March 20, 1833 in VA;[12],[13],[14] married Margaret S. ? circa 1858; died January 25,
1885 in Carroll Co., VA, at age 51; cause of death "asthma," age listed as 51 years, 10 months and 5
days.[15]
He began
military service on March 12, 1863 in Red Sulphur Springs, VA when he enlisted
in Co. E of the 45th VA INF (Col. Browne's Regiment in the Army of the
Kanawha). William was discharged June
15, 1863 because of chronic bronchitis. He died in Carroll Co. on Jan. 25, 1885
at the age of 51 years, 10 months, 5 days.[16] William
was described as Age 30, 6'2, blue eyes, auburn hair in June 1863.[17]
Elizabeth CAIN was born in 1811 in NC.
There
were no children of William11 Hanks and Elizabeth Cain.
149. Ruth11 HANKS (Joshua10, Richard9, William8, William7, Thomas6, Thomas5, Thomas4, Thomas3, George2, John1) was born May 24, 1797 in Grayson Co., VA[18],[19] and married John W. Vaughan, son of Jesse Vaughan
and Frances M. Jones, June 12, 1815 in Grayson Co., VA.[20],[21] Ruth died February 15, 1879 in Carroll County, VA,
at age 81.[22]

VAUGHAN was born on December 21, 1792 in Grayson Co., VA.[23],[24],[25] He died on April 15, 1876 in Carroll County, VA,
at age 83, and is buried in the Vaughan Cemetery in Carroll Co., VA.[26],[27] For more

in the Old Quaker Cemetery in Carroll Co., VA.[31]

Quaker Cemetery in Carroll Co., VA.[33]

CARRICO was born in 1800 in Grayson Co., VA.[38],[39],[40] She died on July 23, 1886 in Carroll Co., VA. The cause of death was "palpitation of
heart," and Delia is buried in the Old Quaker Cemetery in Carroll Co., VA.[41]

born 1824 in VA;[42] died 1898 in Carroll Co., VA; Buried in the Morris
Cemetery in Carroll Co., VA.[43]
He
began military service on February 21, 1863 in Carroll Co., VA when he enlisted
in Co. E of the 17th VA INF (Kemper's Brigade) as a private. Born in 1824, Enoch was the son of John and
Selia Hanks. He was a farmer listed on
the 1860 Carroll Co. Census.
Enoch
was captured in Dinwiddie Co. on Mar 31, 1865 and sent to Point Lookout, MD. He was released on June 3, 1865 after taking
the oath of allegiance to the US.
He died
in 1898 and is buried in the Morris Cemetery in Carroll Co.[44]

Carrico and Jane Taylor, circa 1831.[47] He died
November 18, 1853 in Carroll Co., VA and is buried in the Old Quaker Cemetery
in Carroll Co., VA.[48],[49]
He was
appointed Constable for the county on March 29, 1842 in Hillsville, Carroll
Co., VA.[50]
Rosamond CARRICO was born on October 2, 1807 in VA.[51],[52] She died on December 20, 1891 at age 84 and is
buried in the Oakland United Methodist Church Cemetery in Carroll Co., VA.[53],[54]

a farmer in 1850 in Carroll Co., VA.[60] Martin
began military service on Jun 1, 1861 in Carroll Co. when he enlisted in Co. D.
of the 29th VA INF but he never mustered with the company. He was dropped from the rolls in 1862 and
later served in the 8th VA CAV.[61] On April
27, 1862 in Crumps, VA he enlisted in Co. C of the 8th VA INF (Capt. Bowen's
Regiment in The Army of the Kanawha).
He was detailed to carry mail on July 15, 1863 on a mail contract
without soldier's wages.

ii. Creed Hanks;
born December 4, 1836 in VA;[62],[63] married Minerva Jane (--?--) circa 1868;[64] died January 9, 1923 at age 86; buried in the Oakland
United Methodist Church Cemetery in Carroll Co., VA.[65]
He
began military service on April 27, 1862 in Crumps when he enlisted as a private in Co. C of the 8th VA CAV. He served as a Government agent in Dublin, VA in July of 1862 at age 24 then
was a harness maker at Dublin on July
1, 1864. Creed also served in the
Quarter Master Department at Dublin Depot in Jan 1865.[66]
