Generation Twelve

 

 

183.  Edward12 HANKS (Thomas11, Joshua10, Richard9, William8, William7, Thomas6, Thomas5, Thomas4, Thomas3, George2, John1) was born November 7, 1822[1] and married Eliza (--?--) circa 1845.[2]  Edward died April 25, 1898 at age 75 and is buried in the Old Quaker Cemetery in Carroll Co., VA.[3]

     Eliza (--?--) was born on October 15, 1822.[4]  She died on April 11, 1867 at age 44 and is buried in the Old Quaker Cemetery in Carroll Co., VA.[5]

     Children of Edward12 Hanks and Eliza (--?--) were as follows:

      191.        i.    Amanda13 Hanks; born April 20, 1847;[6] died 1859; Buried in the Old Quaker Cemetery in Carroll Co., VA.[7]

      192.       ii.    Julia S. Hanks; born June 21, 1857;[8] died 1860; Buried in the Old Quaker Cemetery in Carroll Co., VA.[9]

 

 

 

188.  Henry Friel12 HANKS (Joshua11, Joshua10, Richard9, William8, William7, Thomas6, Thomas5, Thomas4, Thomas3, George2, John1) was born May 19, 1839 in VA[10],[11] and married L. E. Maberry July 21, 1875.[12]  Friel died October 18, 1927 at age 88 and is buried in the Oakland United Methodist Church Cemetery in Carroll Co., VA.[13]

     A Civil War Veteran, he began military service on April 27, 1862 in Crumps, VA when he enlisted as a private in the 8th VA CAV, Co. C (Bowen's Regiment in The Army of the Kanawha).  Friel deserted Oct 20, 1864.  He was a POW paroled at Appomattox C. H. on Apr 9, 1865.  He was in Camp Lee Soldier's Home after the war.  He lived in Carroll County and was a brother to Creed, Martin and Orville (4th VA INF RES).[14] 

     L. E. MABERRY, daughter of Absolum & Fannie Maberry, was born on November 6, 1855.[15] She died on March 8, 1920 at age 64 and is buried in the Oakland United Methodist Church Cemetery in Carroll Co., VA.[16]

     Children of Henry Friel12 Hanks and L. E. Maberry were:

      193.        i.    Mattie E.13 Hanks; born May 14, 1889;[17] died March 2, 1890; buried in the Oakland United Methodist Church Cemetery in Carroll Co., VA.[18]

 

 

 

190.  Orville12 HANKS (Joshua11, Joshua10, Richard9, William8, William7, Thomas6, Thomas5, Thomas4, Thomas3, George2, John1) was born May 18, 1846 in VA[19],[20] and married Sarah Zachary circa 1870.[21]  Orville died October 23, 1925 at age 79, and is buried in the Oakland United Methodist Church Cemetery in Carroll Co., VA.[22]

     He began military service circa 1863  when he enlisted in the 4th VA INF (Reserves), Co. F, K.  Orville is listed on the Master Index of VA Soldiers, 15.[23],[24]  He was a farmer on April 5, 1874 in Carroll Co., VA.[25]

     Sarah “Sally” ZACHARY, daughter of William and Ginnie Zacary, was born on September 18, 1836.[26],[27]  She died on September 3, 1887 at age 50, and is buried in the Oakland United Methodist Church Cemetery in Carroll Co., VA.[28]  She died on September 5, 1887 in Carroll Co., VA, at age 50.  The cause was listed as "tumor blood vessel."[29]

     Children of Orville12 Hanks and Sarah Zachary were:

      194.        i.    Joshua13 Hanks; born February, 1874 in Carroll Co., VA;[30] died April 5, 1874 in Carroll Co., VA.[31]
