59.  William8 HANKS II (William7, Thomas6, Thomas5, Thomas4, Thomas3, George2, John1) was born February 14, 1679 in Whitemarsh, Richmond Co., VA[1],[2] and married Hester C. Mills, daughter of John Mills and Hester White, in July 1711 in Whitemarsh, Richmond Co., VA.[3],[4]   William died May 1, 1733 in Richmond Co., VA, at age 54.[5]

     His descendants migrated toward Georgia and Texas.[6]   William was a farmer and carpenter.[7]  He left a will on Apr. 24, 1732 which was probated June 7, 1732.

     William Hanks II wanted all his debts paid.  In his will he wrote: "I likewise give to my son William Hancks all my working tools. . .he teaching any of his brothers that has a mind to the trade of a carpenter or  wheelright, and that he shall stay with his mother (and work to help pay my debts)† I give to my loving wife Hester Hancks . . . etc. (Only a horse which I owe a pair of cartwheels and a small chest for which I desire my son William to pay and take horse)…†

     Hester C. MILLS was born circa 1690 in North Farnham, Richmond County, VA.[9]  In Order Book 12, p 180 in Richmond Co. VA, the May Court of 1749 ruled "The petition of Hester Hanks setting forth that Bridget Spriggs Unjustly Detained from her Service Darby Springs and Praying Relief in the premisses is dismissed."[10]

     Children of William8 Hanks II and Hester C. Mills were as follows:

+      62.        i.    William9 Hanks III, born May 26, 1712 in Richmond Co., VA; married Sarah Durham.

+      63.       ii.    John Hanks, born June 24, 1714; married Mary Mott.

        64.      iii.   Hannah Hanks, born February 14, 1717 in Richmond Co., VA; married

                          James Webb[11] circa 1740.

        65.      iv.    Sarah Hanks; born February 20, 1720 in Richmond Co., VA;[12] married ? Draper.

+      66.       v.    Richard Hanks Sr., born August 14, 1723 in Richmond Co., VA; married Mary Hinds.

        67.      vi.    Susannah Hanks, born December 18, 1725 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond Co., VA; [13],[14] married William Hightower October 12, 1743 in Richmond Co., VA; died after 1780 in Mecklenburg Co., VA.[15],[16].

        68.    vii.    Thomas Hanks; born June 26, 1728 in Richmond Co., VA;[17] died 1777 in Amelia Co., VA.[18]

     He left a will in 1777 in Amelia Co., Va.  “Bequeathed 50 acres of land in Chesterfield Co. to a nephew and Godson, Thomas Draper.*

*     No record is found of a marriage; evidentally Thomas was quite a dandy fellow with his man his ’fiddel“, books and the looking glass. What became of his horse? Perhaps he was ill for long and sold the horse. His will was signed as here and Thomas Hightower was one of the witnesses.

        69.    viii.    James Hanks; born February 12, 1732 in Richmond Co., VA.[20]

     “No further records discovered; unless the James Hanks of Amelia County, who purchased land there, Jun.23, 1768, is this one. Either this James Hanks or another James, whose wife was Nancy, purchased land in Amelia, Oct. 26, 1763, which they sold, Mar. 19, 1769.”[21]

 

 

 

60.  Luke8 HANKS I (William7, Thomas6, Thomas5, Thomas4, Thomas3, George2, John1) was born February 10, 1684/85 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond Co., VA[22],[23] and married Elizabeth Glascock in 1718 in VA.[24]  Luke died in 1757 in Lancaster Co., VA.[25]

     His descendants migrated into Kentucky, Illinois, Iowa and further west.[26]  He was a tobacco farmer.[27]

     Elizabeth GLASCOCK was born circa 1690.[28]

     Children of Luke8 Hanks I and Elizabeth Glascock were:

+      70.        i.    Abraham9 Hanks, born 1745 in Richmond Co., VA; married Sarah Harper.
