62.  William9 HANKS III (William8, William7, Thomas6, Thomas5, Thomas4, Thomas3, George2, John1) was born May 26, 1712 in Richmond Co., VA[1] and married Sarah Durham January 26, 1738 in Richmond Co., VA.

     He moved from Richmond Co., VA to Amelia Co., VA and from there to Dinwiddie Co., VA and later to NC.[2]

     Sarah DURHAM was born circa 1715.

     Children of William9 Hanks III and Sarah Durham were as follows:

+      71.        i.    Elijah10 Hanks, born December 17, 1740 in Richmond Co., VA; married Nan Craft.

        72.       ii.    Million Hanks; born August 21, 1742 in Richmond Co., VA;[3] married Mireman Barnes.

        73.     iii.    Judith Hanks; born December 29, 1744 in Richmond Co., VA;[4] died before 1787.[5]

+      74.      iv.    Argyle Hanks, born February 2, 1746 in Richmond Co., VA; married Million Hargrave; married Francis Hargrave.

        75.       v.    Susanna Hanks; born September 19, 1749 in Richmond Co., VA;[6] married Thomas H. Phillips December 10, 1794 in Granville Co., NC.[7]

        76.      vi.    Hannah Hanks; born February 11, 1752 in Richmond Co., VA;[8] married ? Moore.

+      77.    vii.    William Hanks IV, born 1755 in VA; married Sally ?

 

 

 

63.  John9 HANKS (William8, William7, Thomas6, Thomas5, Thomas4, Thomas3, George2, John1) was  born June 24, 1714[9] and married Mary Mott, daughter of John Mott and Ann ?, circa 1740.  John died after 1790 in NC.[10]

     He moved from Hanover Co., VA to Halifax Co., NC then to Dobbs Co., NC.[11]

     Mary MOTT was born circa 1715.

     Children of John9 Hanks and Mary Mott were as follows:

+      78.        i.    Mott10 Hanks, born April 21, 1742 in Richmond Co., VA; married Mary ?; married Susannah ?

+      79.       ii.    John Hanks, born circa 1745 in VA; married Mary Dawson.

+      80.     iii.    Epiphroditus Hanks, born January 25, 1747 in Northumberland Co., VA; married (--?--) ?; married (--?--) ?

 

 

 

66.  Richard9 HANKS Sr. (William8, William7, Thomas6, Thomas5, Thomas4, Thomas3, George2, John1) was born August 14, 1723 in Richmond Co., VA[12] and married Mary Hinds, daughter of James Hinds and Patience ?, September 25, 1753 in Dinwiddie Co., VA.[13],[14]  Richard died after 1788 probably in NC.[15]

     He moved from Richmond Co., VA to Dinwiddie Co., VA and then Amelia Co., VA.[16]

      “Excerpt: Creed L. Hanks to Hitchcock.

                         Piper's Gap, Va.

                         Jan. 13, 1896

. . . to settle the question of who was the father of Joshua Hanks Sr. Some of my cousins who are now old men have once known but say they have forgotten but on examination of the deed herewith enclosed satisfies me that this Richard Hanks is the father of Joshua Hanks Sr. The deed made from Richard Hanks to William Dunavant was made when Joshua Hanks Sr. was 10 years old- -this agrees well with what I have heard him say that his father moved to N.C. when he was a small boy. . .1st in Davie Co†and that he Joshua Hanks Sr. had 5 or 6 brothers in the Revolutionary War. . .

                         C. L. Hanks after 1788.”[17]

     Mary HINDS was born on May 2, 1734 in Richmond Co., VA.[18]  “Mary Hinds was rich and had her dowry weighed out to her when she married Richard Hanks. Their granddaughter Patience, married Dave Kinder.    

                    Mrs. H. M. Ivy in 1753.”[19]

     Children of Richard9 Hanks Sr. and Mary Hinds were as follows:

+      82.        i.    William10 Hanks, born circa 1755 in Dinwiddie Co., VA; married Keziah Wright.

        83.       ii.    David Hanks; born circa 1758; married Elizabeth Hoyle October 31, 1783 in Lincoln Co., NC.[20]

        84.     iii.    James Hanks; born 1759 in Dinwiddie Co., VA;[21] married Mary Starrett August 26, 1779 in Lincoln Co., NC; died between 1840 and 1850 in Wilkes Co., NC.

     He lived in Surry Co., NC and Wilkes Co., NC.[22] He began military service circa 1779 Revolutionary War Veteran.  Received pension.[23]

+      85.      iv.    Joshua Hanks, born 1760 in Amelia Co., VA; married Ruth Bryant.

+      86.       v.    Richard Hanks II, born 1762 in Amelia Co., VA; married Phebe Hayes; married Levian Young.

+      87.      vi.    Thomas Hanks, born circa 1763 in prob. Amelia Co., VA; married Lucretia Hargrave.

        88.    vii.    Patience Hanks, born circa 1765 in Amelia Co., VA; [24] married Frederick Bess in 1784 in NC.[25]  Patience died in NC.[26]

        89.    viii.    Felix Hanks; born circa 1765 in Amelia Co., VA.[27]

        90.      ix.    Katy Hanks; born circa 1766; married John Hammock March 31, 1791 in Lunenburg Co., Cumberland Parish, VA.[28]

        91.       x.    Dicey Hanks; born circa 1778 in Amelia Co., VA;[29] married Zacariah Hampton December 27, 1803 in Lunenburg Co., Cumberland Parish, VA.[30]

 

 

 

70.  Abraham9 HANKS (Luke8, William7, Thomas6, Thomas5, Thomas4, Thomas3, George2, John1) was born 1745 in Richmond Co., VA and married Sarah Harper in 1784.

     Sarah HARPER was born circa 1750.

     Children of Abraham9 Hanks and Sarah Harper were:
