bullet  Noted events in her life were:

  • 18 Sep 1892, Birth record: Margaret Lou Cline, white female, Litaker, Rowan County, North Carolina, USA. 2 Father: George M. R. Cline
    Mother: Mollie M. Schenck
  • Military: She served in the Army Core of Nurses in World War I. 1
  • Apr 2014, Family history: From Tara Mancini, 3 Tara says, "It was told to me that Aunt Margaret Lou never forgave her uncle for arranging for her to go to an "orphanage".
"Despite this, Aunt Lou and David Delano actually like the home which turned out to be more "boarding school" than orphanage. It seems that the children were not there to be adopted, instead it was a place for children to live whose parents either died or were from a previous marriage. They received a First through 12th grade education each graduating with high school diplomas. Courses for all children included; reading, writing, cursive writing, adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, and even basic book keeping from what was told to me. The children were well dressed and taught manors and etiquette. Additional classes included cooking, sowing, knitting and needle point. As apparent in the well written letters from Margaret Lou while she was in the Army Nursing Corp in WWI, she was an astute observer of her surroundings and had a cheery personality. While at the Lutheran home, Lillian was tapped to assist with teaching younger children reading and writing. She also worked in the office and registered new children and filled out their paper work. These skills would later assist each of the Cline children in obtaining careers they enjoyed. Margaret went on to be an Army trained nurse (Lillian during a two year stay in NC, would assist in the deliveries of babies.) David Delano joined the Army and later became a Trolley car conductor. After a number of year working in a department store and then as a house wife, Lillian went on to a Buffalo, NY college in the 1930's and obtained her nutrition's certificate. She worked at Westing House in Buffalo, NY during WWII. She was head of the kitchen and set the menu, recipes, and used her text books to plan meals around "the four food groups" of grain, meat/dairy, fruit and vegetable. Viola became a professional seamstress and also could repair fabric which was a pains taking task. "
  • Apr 2014, Family history: From Tara Mancini, 3 Within weeks of his father, George Cline's, death, William B. Cline being 14 yrs old went to live with his uncle. He would be separated from his sisters. According to an "Application" signed by the Revern, and an attorney signed a letter on Sept. 24th 1903, Margaret Lou and her little brother David Delano Cline were to be sent to the Lutheran Children's home in Salam, Virginia.
  • Apr 2014, Family history: From Tara Mancini, 3 "The eldest Cline, William B. Cline made his way to Buffalo, New York where at the turn of the century was a major port of shipping and rail roads. Margaret Lou Cline and David Delano Cline after graduating high school joined William in Buffalo. By 1818 all three siblings had joined the military and went to Europe during WWI. Margaret Lou describes her experience in letters to her sisters who were still at the Lutheran Children's home. Margaret describes the Bristol Hotel in New York where she received her Army nursing training and going out on the town with "the girls". She seemed enamored and told of enjoyed the training as much as the glorious time out with her new friends. Her letters go on to describe the trains and the rail car that would be their nursing station. After arriving in France she managed to meet up with her brother David in Paris."
  • Apr 2014, Family history: From Tara Mancini, 3 "Margaret Lou Cline also encouraged Lillian and Viola to join William B. Cline in Buffalo, New York. William or "Bill", met and married Margaret Finn who lived on a farm on Buffalo's east side. Later Lillian and Viola would follow. Lillian met Margaret Finn's brother Edward Finn whose family had emigrated from Ireland and was quite taken with him. She stayed with her brother Bill until Lillian and Edward's wedding. Lillian is my great Grandmother . She would sit in her rocker and I on the floor at her feet. She taught me how to read, count coins and needle work."
