The following was written by Verlie Wells McMichael:
She had a twin brother, named Louis Cisco. Source: Verlie Wells
She was called Little Granny because she was so small. She had her special chair that she sat in, and when someone else would sit in it, she would say "get out of my chair before you break it down".
She, her husband and children came to Texas by Ox cart, possibly from Tennessee, there were no roads, they just followed the bear trapper's trail's. Hiriam was seven years old at this time. They settled in Bosqueville and Sommervile, Bosque County, near Waco, Texas. Later they move to Sand Flat, about seven miles NE of Lindale, Smith County, Texas. All of their farming was done by Oxen drawn equipment.
She always had a pony to ride, and she rode it just about everywhere she went. Some of the places she lived, the wild hogs and bears were so bad that she had to carry small pieces's of meat, twine balls or just something to throw down along the way for them to eat or tear up to detain them.
She enjoyed smoking her corn cob pipe which had a cane swivel. Her great grandchildren liked to light the pipe for her by getting a coal of fire from the fireplace to get it started.
She also told her grand and great grandchildren that one day there would be flying horses, that she wouldn't live to see them, but they would. (airplanes) She also remarked that she was going to live a long live, and she did. She outlived all four husbands, and all of her children. She died in 1916 and is buried in Sand Flat. Lela, her grandchild, said she heard Little Granny say that when she was five years old the stars fell. When asked what they did, Little Granny, said "We just fell down and stared praying, and it soon got light again".
During the Civil War, the Indian's killed Little Granny's husband, Hiram Edwards, and they were stealing, destroying or burning everything they had. She escaped with her baby, Hiriam, her pony and a small bundle of clothes, and swam the Brazos River holding Hiriam. It was said the she was from "La Brossca".
