  • Obituary, 8 Jan 2011, Tyler Morning Telegraph, Tyler, Smith, Texas, USA. 1 John Ernest Jacobs, 83, of Little Elm, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2011 at his residence. On that day Almighty God reunited him with his wife, Gladys O'Dell Perryman Jacobs, the love of his life. He died peacefully with his daughter Robyn was by his side. John was born September 28, 1927 in Monroe, Louisiana. He was raised by his mother, Flora Evelyn Jacobs. Times were tough then but "Neenie" always made sure he had fun things to do like building model airplanes. He built enough model airplanes that he could have started his own model airline company! Dad learned his strong work ethic from his mother and now generations of his offspring carry on that tradition.
John met his wife, Gladys O'Dell Perryman, while working as a motorcycle courier for the Associated Press in Washington, D.C. It was love at first sight. They were married on January 30, 1946 in Rockville, Maryland. During World War II he served as a medic in the Army. After the war he worked for the federal government as an environmental engineer. He was a small business owner in Denton with AAMCO Transmissions. Later he would be a service manager for a family-owned automotive business in Austin, Texas. John loved spending time with his family and friends. He was an expert auto-mechanic, proficient mathematician; an avid bird fancier, and an all-around kind man. John was an elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
John was preceded in death by his wife. He is survived by his four children: Cheri Arledge of Krum, Jerry Jacobs of Austin, Bobby Jacobs of Aubrey, and Robyn Jacobs of Austin. John leaves behind 10 grandchildren: Kim Bilton, Corree Bond, Chris Arledge, Kami Vargas, Sarah Green, Mackenzie Jacobs, Margaret Lindquist, Colby Jacobs, Callie Jacobs, and Peggy Jacobs; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, January 10, 2011, from 10 '96 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 3000 Old North Road, Denton. A memorial service will be held Monday, January 10 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Church. Graveside services and burial will be at Red Springs Cemetery in Lindale, Texas immediately following the conclusion of the memorial services in Denton. Kenneth Cline will be officiating graveside services. Please allow for transit time to the Red Springs Cemetery. DeBerry Funeral Home of Denton will be coordinating funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the following: American Cancer Society and /or the Seaton Fund '96 Seaton Cancer Care Team, Patient Assistance Fund, 2600 East M.L.K. , Austin, Texas 78702.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the doctors and nurses of Presbyterian Hospital, Denton, Texas, Meals on Wheels and the Visiting Nursing Association, and the Paloma Home Health Agency.
