D. F. Taft is authorized to raise a Company for the 22nd Cavalry Regiment, now forming at Rochester [NY].
Men enlisting with me will receive the Highest Bounties, and will not be sent at once into the field,
as is the case when joining Old Regiments.

"New York 22nd Cavalry Regiment.  This Regiment was organized at Rochester, NY in February 1864, to serve 3 years.  It was mustered out of service August 1, 1865, in accordance with orders from the War Department."  Source: Official Army Resister of the Volunteer Force of the United States Army for the years 1861 - 1865, Part II, March 2, 1865, Page 352.

It is unclear who this D. F. Taft is.  My search of New York Civil War rosters has turned up empty.  Do you know??  Please e-mail me with any information.
