B.ca. 1743 of Wilkes Co., NC. It is not known where he was born or where he lived before the Revolution. That his name was Andrew A. Tate is verified by a land grant 21 August 1822 by State of Georgia to Andrew A.Tate a Revolutionary soldier of P. Brown's Dist. Franklin Co., GA for 250 Acres in Early Co., GA. Apparently the grant came near his death and wasn't completed as there is no record in Early Co., for such a tract of land. He was a Patriot, settled in Wilkes Co., NC prior to 3 March 1779.

When the state of NC Greetings: for the consideration of fifty shillings per 100 acres paid by Andrew Tate, a tract of land containing 160 acres S. side of Yadkin River, on Bakers Branch adj. Thrasher's Corner. He was a juror 1785-1779.

Andrew Tate appeared in Wilkes Co., NC Federal Census 1790 with wife, one son over 16, three sons under 16 and five dtrs. In 1800 Federal Census, Pendleton Co., SC, he was over 45, no wife, one son 16/26, one son under 10, two dtrs. 16/26, two dtrs 10/16 and one dtr under 10. Apparently two sons away from home, there were at least 11 children.

On 12 Feb 1790 Andrew Tate of Wilkes Co., NC purchased 154 acres in Pendleton SC, (now Anderson Co.,) from Robert Rankin. He md 2nd in SC, Elizabeth Looney, wid of John Looney dec'd of Anderson Co, SC.

On 29 September 1818 Andrew Tate, a farmer, of Franklin Co., GA sold 178 acres on Big Generostee waters of Savannah River in Pendleton Co., SC to John Robert Jr. dower by wife Elizabeth Looney. In the same year he paid taxes on lot 12 Academy Road and Shoal Creek, in Capt. Tates Dist, however he did not pay taxes on No. 18 Academy Road because of age. On March 18, 1819 Andrew Tate of Franklin Co., GA gave for love and affection to Bazzel Tinsley, after my death and the death of my wife Elizabeth Tate, lot No. 18 on Shoal Creek. wit. Joseph Watters, Adam Looney. He acquired lot No. 18 from John C. and Matilda Reed, whereon Andrew Tate then lived adj. William Tate, Jesse McMillion and Bazzel Tinsley.

{Note} There is some conjecture that he was brother of my William Tate, since he settled in Pendleton Co., SC also lived adjoining William Tate in Franklin Co., GA. It will be noted the first record we find of our David Tate is 1803 when he settled adjoining Andrew Tate in SC, who also named two sons Andrew Tate,

Andrew Tate will November 5, 1822 Franklin Co., GA, probated 1 September 1823 wife, Elizabeth Tate all personal property. Ex. Elizabeth Tate, John P. Carnes, Jesse McMillion and Didamer Tate.

Possible Connections to Andrew Tate

Abraham Tate settled at Sonoraville, Gordon Co, GA md Nellie and had 13 children, eleven of whom were sons. Land lottery, Habersham Co., GA.

Asa Tate, there were two of the same in Anderson Co., in 1810 who settled in Habersham Co., GA or had land lotteries there.

John Tate, On 30 July 1784 100 acres on Mountain Creek, "John Tate Esq. of Pendleton Co., S.C died after a long and painful illness in his 68th year. 17 Feb 1808 an old and respected inhabitant of this Co.,

Rev. Wilkins Tate, the family tradition is that 11 brothers came from SC and settled in Habersham Co., GA.None of the above identified.

Margaret Tate b. ca. 1764 md 22 Feb 1780 Jesse Wood

Riley Tate b. ca. 1780 md 1807 Mary Ann Ray. They spell the name Tait in this branch of the family and some say his full name was William Riley Tate while others claim he is the son of William Tate, whose brother James Tate was killed at Guilford Courthouse. We do not have documentary proof that he was son of Andrew Tate, we do know he was born in NC married there and subsequently settled in GA. The subject of this sketch settled in Oglethorpe Co., GA where some of their children were born, however after 1816 they migrated to Point Jackson Clarke Co., ALA, where he died intestate 1819-1820.
