JAMES TATE  born August 1 1758 Ireland. He migrated to America during the Colonial period with two brothers with whom he entered the service of the Colonies and of whom he never afterward heard. He was a teamster in the Rev. Forces and afterward settled on 300 acres in York District. SC. He was a Fuller, Blacksmith by trade. He died in 1827. He married Catherine Stevenson, born 1770. His will dated 10 April 1827; probated 23 Oct 1827, wife Catherine to have half the plantation containing 120 acres and at her demise to , Luthe Tate, Sarah Isles, Samuel Tate, Rebecca Wallace, John, Hugh Andrew Tate, three single dtrs, Nancy, Eleanor and Catherine. Ex. John Tate, son and John Jackson,

HUGH TATE  b 1799 York Dist, SC, son of James and Catherine Tate, md Margaret Cawthun. His will dated 22 Jan 1870 probated May 2, 1870, his wife Margaret and children, all minors.

ANDREW TATE  b 1801 York Dist, SC. His will stated June 16th 1866 probated July 23, 1866, son Hardy, sis Nancy and Catherine Tate, brother Hugh, Luther and James, Andrew Stewart, their Mother's share. Elizabeth Neely, Catherine Choat, and William Andrew Black. To Nancy, Catherine, Hugh, Luther, Andrew and James Stewart, Elizabeth Neely, Catherine Choat, William Andrew Black, and Freedman Hardy, exor, Martin L. Tate and Andrew Stewart.
No wife mentioned, children born to Andrew Tate, was Hardy Tate.

MARTIN LUTHER TATE: b ca 1809 York Dist, SC, son of James and Catherine Tate. Md Nancy Thomason. Children born to this union:
Jane Catherine Tate,     md  J. S. McKenzie
