THE FAMILY OF MAGNUS TATE
  1688 SCOTLAND/1747 WEST VA


  

MAGNUS TATE. b ca 1688 on the Orkney Island, north of Scotland. He landed in Philadelphia 20 May 1696. He married Honor William's b. ca 1692 in St. Pauls Church, Chester Co, PA They settled in Frederick Co, VA which later became Jefferson Co, West VA. He died Sept., 1747 at his home in Belvedere which be built near Charles Town West VA. His widow Honor qualified as adm. Inventory filed 8 May 1749. Honor Tate, died shortly, 16 August 1750 and Magnus Tate, Jr. qualified as adm. As far as it is known, they only had the one child:
                    MAGNUS TATE JR.

MAGNUS TATE JR.  b 5 April 1732 Belevedere, Charles Town, West VA, died March 1808. He married Mary Riley McCormick in Fredrick Co, Sept. 26th, 1759. They lived at "Belevedere" near Charlestown, which estate was perhaps the home of his father also. Their children are:

Mary Tate, b Feb. 2, 1761 md, Joseph Daugherty
       Their Children are:
               Ennis (died in California)
               William, (md a Miss Henderson, left no children)
               Mary,  (Never married)
Ann Tate (called Nancy) b Feb. 15th, 1763 md Francis Stribling

Margaret Tate, ( called Peggy) b in 1765 died 1830 m May 12 1785 Battalie Muse

Magnus Tate III b. Sept. 01, 1767  md Mrs. Elizabeth Tryatt Shrodes

John Tate  b 1770  Died Unmarried

George Tate, b 1773 Died Unmarried

William Tate, b Jan 20 1776 md Abigail North Humphreys

MAGNUS TATE III born 01 Sept. 1767 Belvedere, Jefferson Co, West VA, md Mrs. Elizabeth Tryatt-Shrodes. Magnus tate served in the VA House, 1797-99, 1802, 1809-1810 and in 1815 went to Congress. He was a trustee of the town of Charles Town when it was est. in 1786. he had the following children:
  Erasmus Tate, b 1788 md Ann Packett of Charlestown, he died at the age of 75, leaving no children
  John Tate, b 1790
  Mary Tate, b 1792
  Lucinda Tate b 1794
  Amanda Tate, b 1796

WILLIAM TATE, (Brother to above listed Magnus Tate III) born 20 Jan 1776 "Belvedere". md Abigail North Humphreys

Mary Ann Tate, b 1808 md Mr. Daughtery
Dr. Magnus W. Tate b 1811 of Lexington MO, married twice issue by second marriage - Gay, Hohn, William a dtr who married George Crawford of Louisville, KY.
Willelma Tate b in 1813, d Sept. 20, 1853 , md a MR. Aisquith of Baltimore, MD, issue born, Mary V, Lyttleton, William and others
George H. Tate died: Unmarried in Cincinnati Ohio April 25th, 1890
JOHN HUMPHREYS TATE born Dec 26, 1816 "Belvedere" died Feb. 7th 1891, md Cincinnati Ohio, May 11 1853 Margaret Kincaid Chenoweth. Issue born from this Union
