Tuesday 19 Nov. 1799: "We attended at Tait's chapel, in the Forks: it was a cold day. I gave a short exhortation on Rev. xxi, 7. I passed a night with Charles Tait, formerly of cokesbury, and was made exceedingly welcome and comfortable." Tait's Chapel was near the home of Charles Tait, a few miles west of the forks of the Broad and Savannah. The town of Petersburg was in the actual forks. Col. Charles Tait lives 5 miles south of the present Elberton( A house now stands there which is said to contain materials from the original Tate building - Gen. Comm. on Archives and History.). He became U.S. Senator in 1809. GA tradition says Asbury held the first GA conference in his house in 1788.

Sunday 14 Dec. 1800: Stayed at Charles Tait's house.

Sunday 7 Dec. 1806: preached at Tait's meeting house on Luke xii, 40. "It was a very cold day; and the house was so open we had little satisfaction. I visited Charles Tait, a judge..."

Thursday Oct. 29, 1807: "...to Tait's; here I spoke to a few persons..."

Sunday 14 Nov. 1813: "We lodged at senator Tait's, and I retired to bed with a fever. Here are two sick families. There is a great drought: teses are judgement days. I preached at Peter Oliver's; my host and wife are both sick."
