This is a new line of research (about a year) so please bear with me. I consider this site an extension of my research and hope to connect with many missing cousins. IF God is willing to let me live long enough, I would like to add leaves to our braches, by postng the collateral lines; and add strong roots to our research by adding our ancestors here for everyone to share. My name is Connie. Please write if you have additions, AND, corrections are welcome!

Our Tolbert search began with Mary Ella born 11 March 1902 in McCrory, Woodruff County, Arkansas. Mary was the youngest of two children born to Joseph and "Nannie" (Tarno) Tolbert.

Joseph "Joe" Tolbert was born 12 February 1870 in Arkansas. According to the 1880 Woodruff County, Arkansas census, Joseph's parents were born in Tennessee. His mother was listed as: Mary E. MARTIN, head of household, 44 year old white female, and widowed.

Joe Tolbert, age 26, of Woodruff County, and Miss Nannie TARNO, age 25, of Jackson County married 16 February 1896 in Jackson County, Arkansas. They had two children: a son, Robert Lee; and a daughter, Mary Ella.

Joe and Nancy Tolbert

Joe Tolbert died of Pulmonary Tuberculosis 23 August 1915 in Woodruff County, Arkansas - DeView Township. He is buried in Fakes Chapel Cemetery which is a short distance from McCrory, Arkansas. Joe's Death Certificate did not include the names of his father or mother and no informant was included on the record. His obituary, however, named a sister.................

SOURCE: Clipped (not dated) newspaper article. Another article pasted on the same page with Joe's obituary referred to "readers of THE HOME NEWS".

Note: The daughter, "Emma", should have read Mary Ella, age 13.

Joe Tolbert's sister was Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Tolbert ca. 1857- 1859 in Tennessee. She married H. D. "Bud" NESBITT 21 March 1878 in Woodruff County, Arkansas.
