Feb. 13 "Republicans had caucus this afternoon. I was nominated for collector over R. M Hall & S. Groat they had 45 & 35 - I had 117 votes"
Feb. 15 "prepairing for town meeting - getting tickets ready - split up pretty well"
Feb. 16 "this is a warm election - 25 different tickets in the field"
Feb. 17 "great rejoicing over election - I was defeated by Hi Smith 159 majority - a bad beat"
Feb. 22 "Mrs Jane Nixon died"
Feb. 24 "I carried Mr. Green up to the funeral of Mrs. Jane Nixon"
Feb. 27 "Mart Fay is here from the west and was at our house for tea"
Mar. 18 "Johnny [Taylor] very sick with diptheria & scarlet fever"
Mar. 25 "J. Taylors son died this morning at 10 oclock" [John David Taylor 1872-75]
Mar. 27 "funeral to day - it was a very large one" [John Taylor]
April 14 "Mrs Loomis had a young daughter, about 11 O'clock last night"

April 24 "Mr McCollum buried"
May 3 "Aunt Grace [Cosgrove] & Jamey up on the 9 Oclock train for the West"
May 12 "Mrs. Sexton was buried [Sophia O.?]...Dr Collins was buried to day"
May 18 " Bob Taylor was arrested last night & taken over to Mayville Jim gone over to day to bail him out"
May 31 "This is Circus day - a good many in town"
June 15 "Some boys broke into Wm Ogles Store last night and they are arrested to day"
June 19 "Just as we got into bed last night the doorbell rung. for Jane to go over to Sarah's She gave birth to a boy and a girl about 11 oclock last night"
June 22 "Placed the assessment roll in H. B. Rolfs hands today"
June 24 "Frank took Jim's mare & mine and worked out my road tax"
June 25 "Geo. McEwen was drowned this morning in the Lake - in a swimming"
June 28 "they found the body of Charlie McEwen this morning - buried at 4 oclock P.M."
July 5 " not any doing to day but fire men's parade at 4 P.M - had a shower of rain and the fire men did not come out"
Aug. 14 "...started for Fairpoint [Chautauqua] this morning got over about 11 oclock a.m. there is a big crowd - the most people together I ever saw - saw "President Grant"
Aug. 15 "President Grant on the platform at forenoon services - he is a plain modest unasuming looking man"
Aug. 26 "I have been very busy in the market all day, posting & making out School report to Regents"

Sept. 10 "Firemen out parading - they are having a good time"
Sept. 18 "Samys Frank had a fight at the Depot last evening with Taylor agt. he got badly beaten I believe"
Sept. 25 "Seats in Church were auctioned off this afternoon - some of them went very high. and a good many changes - I got the same one $55."
Oct. 2 "J. H. Plumb and I was reelected elders for 3 years"
Oct. 18 "meeting of Synod" - a good many ministers - Rev. Remington of Lancaster & Elder Vance from Groveland with us"
Oct. 23 "Mrs. E. A. Skinner a daughter" [Flora Atkins Skinner]
Oct. 28 "we started on the way freight to Mooreheadville to attend Johnny Crosgrove wedding at 4 1/2 oclock to a Miss Curtiss - home on the Cincinnati" [son of Grace and Robert, m. in Erie Co. PA]
Oct. 29 "Jim gone to Mayville to Robts. [Shaw] law suit with Bacon - he was thrown in $60."
Nov. 2 "This is Election day - very quite [quiet] election ...Samy Johnston opened up a meat market in Brewer block"
Nov. 8 "New butcher Craen on a drunk"
Dec. 14 "Henry Rimbacks child buried" [Nellie A., age 4m, 8d.]
Dec. 26 "Frank Persons buried to day" [age 23 y. 1 m.]
