MISS SUSIE GRAWE A BRIDE OF THE WEEK
MARRIAGE TO MR. ALPHONSE KERKHOFF TOOK PLACE TUESDAY.
Very Rev. Father Warning Officiated at Ceremony. Couple Will Reside near Petersburg.
On Tuesday morning, November 25, 1913, at 7:15 o'clock occurred the marriage of Miss Susie Grawe of Dyersville, Iowa, and Mr. Alphonse Kerkhoff of Petersburg, Iowa, in St. Francis Church in Dyersville; Very Rev. Father Theodore Warning officiated at the ceremony and nuptial mass. The bride was attended by Miss Louise Kerkhoff, the groom's sister, and Mr. Ernest Grawe, the bride's brother, acted as best man. A reception was given at the bride's home following the ceremony to which only near relatives were invited.
The bride wore a beautiful wedding gown of white brocaded silk. She also wore a veil and carried an arm bouquet of white carnations. Her maid was attired in a gown of white crepe [?] and carried pink carnations.
The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nic Grawe, who reside in Dyersville, and is a most highly respected young lady. Susan C. Grawe was born on November 20, 1889, daughter of Nicholas and Anna (Jasper) Grawe. She was born and reared at Dyersville and is an estimable young lady with true womanly characteristics. The groom is a son of Mrs. Mary Kerkhoff of nearby Petersburg. He is an energetic young farmer, honest and ambitious, and well fitted to fight life's battles.
The young couple will go to housekeeping on the Kerkhoff farm northwest of this city and have the best wishes of their many friends for a full share of happiness in their new state of life.
The newlyweds began their newly married life on the Kerkhoff homestead and lived there all their married life. Alphonse and Susan Kerkhoff had four children, Amanda Kerkhoff, Eldon Kerkhoff, Modesta Kerkhoff, Rita Kerkhoff.
ESTEEMED FARMER CALLED BY DEATH
Alphonse Kerkhoff Dies at Mercy Hospital After Long Illness
Alphonse Kerkhoff, prominent farmer of the Petersburg, Iowa, vicinity, died at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa, on Tuesday, November 7, 1944, following an illness of several weeks. He was taken to Mercy Hospital about two weeks previous to receive treatment for a raptured ulcer. Funeral services were held Friday morning, November 10, at 9:30 o'clock at SS. Peter and Paul Church in Petersburg. The Kramer Funeral Home of Dyersville, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.
The deceased was survived by his sorrowing wife, Susan; one son, Eldon Kerkhoff, at home; three daughters, Mrs. Ed (Amanda) Schmidt, of Manchester, Ia.; Rita Kerkhoff, of Council Bluffs, Ia; and Modesta Kerkhoff, at home; four sisters, Mrs. John (Anna) Link, of Guttenberg, Ia., Mrs. G.H. (Rose) Tegeler, of Dyersville, Ia., Mrs. Ben (Louise) Mormann, of Petersburg, Ia., and Mrs. G. (Margaret) Noethe, of Patch Grove, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mrs. Susan C. Kerkhoff, 94, of Dyersville, Iowa, died Thursday, February 10, 1984, at Guttenberg Memorial Hospital in Guttenberg, Iowa. Family and friends called after 2 p.m., Sunday, February 12, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 13, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville. Burial was in SS.Peter and Paul Cemetery in Petersburg, Iowa.
Mrs. Kerkhoff was survived by three daughters, Mrs. Amanda Schmidt, of Greenfield, Wis., and Mrs. Ed (Modesta) Overmann and Mrs. Rita Gassmann, both of Dyersville, Ia.; one son, Eldon Kerkhoff, of Dyersville, Ia.; 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Martha Petsche, of Waterloo, Ia.

Edwin Schmidt, 65, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, died on March 5, 1975. He was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee.
Edmund J. Overmann, 85, of Dyersville, Iowa, died Tuesday, November 26, 2002, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, Iowa. Family and friends called from 2 to 9 p.m., Thursday, November 28, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, where there was a parish scripture service at 4 p.m. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Friday, November 29, at the St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville. Burial was in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Petersburg, Iowa.
Mr. Overmann was survived by his wife Modesta; a daughter, Carla (John) Geistkemper, of Earlville, Ia.; three sons, Gary (Carlyne) Overmann, of Petersburg, Ia., Loras (Glenda) Overmann, of Shellsburg, Ia., and Steven Overmann, of Dyersville, Ia.; seven grandchildren, Karen (Greg) Billick, Michelle (John) Pasker, Anthony, Daniel, and Nicholas Overmann, Matthew and Michael Overmann; five great-grandchildren, Andrew and Caleb Billick, Joshua, Jacob, and Noah Pasker; a brother, Irvin (Lucille) Overman, of Dyersville, and a sister-in-law, Gladys Overman, of Dyersville. Mr. Overmann was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Christine and Timothy Geistkemper; three brothers, Vincent, Aloysius, and Alfred Overman; and a sister, Emma Bonert.
Arnold "Whitey" Gassmann, 60, of Dyersville, Iowa, died at 8:20 p.m., Wednesday, April 10, 1974, at University Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa. Family and friends called after 7 p.m., Saturday, April 13, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, where the Scripture Wake Service was held at 8 p.m., Sunday, April 14. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 15, at the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Gassmann was survived by his wife, Rita; three sons, Dennis Gassman, of Dyersville, Ia., and Ron Gassmann and Tim Gassmann, both at home; four daughters, Mrs. Fred (Marcia) Ramler, of Luxemburg, Ia., Mrs. Marty (Alana) Willenborg, of Dubuque, Ia., Janet Gassmann, of Chicago, Ill., and Shirley Gassmann, at home; five grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. George (Mathilda) Ries, of Ionia, Ia., and Mrs. Nick (Cecile) Hennen, Mrs. Clete (Germaine) Heying, and Mrs. Allan (Leora) Seymour, all of Dubuque, Ia.; and six brothers, Al Gassmann and Harry Gassman, both of Worthington, Ia., Clete Gassmann, of Cedar Rapids, Ia., Cy Gassmann, of Holy Cross, Ia., Francis Gassmann, of Edgewood, Ia., and Clarence Gassmann, of Greendale, Wis.
