Allen Franklin Swiney
Civil War
Pension Records
Allen Franklin Swiney, son of William and Nancy Swiney of Marshall County, Tennessee, served in the 4th Tennessee Cavalry, Company D (McLemore's), with his brothers, Warren, Littleberry, and Adolphus, and his nephew, Warren's son, William D. Swiney.
Warren died at Chatanooga, leaving a widow and at least nine children. Allen and the others survived the war, though Allen, a farmer, mechanic, and carpenter, was shot through both hands at the battle of Thompson's Station, losing two fingers and the use of a third. His right hand was also left only partially functional.
He rejoined his regiment and continued to fight.
He applied for, and received, a pension award. Scanned images of the documents are included here.
